Kingdom of Daesol

The realm of the Dwarves is largely uninhabited on the surface. This is due to their only recent breach of their underground kingdom to the surface. The origin of their people harkens back to their creation out of the stonework near the heart of the world. Myrkstein is their fabled place of origin, though it was lost to them. A massive earthquake shook the whole of the kingdom long ago, collapsing many of the ancient underground roads. A common belief that mimicry is flattery lead to most dwarves practicing craftsmanship, to mold stone and metal as their creator had done to form them. In this pursuit of perfection of the art, the dwarves of Daesol have formed an underground marvel.     Great caverns house much of the population, illuminated at times by flows of magma which are used in forging. The fumes from such production has helped fuel the growth of a bioluminescent fungus, harvested to shed a green light in populated roads and caverns that lack magma light. The fungus also exudes clean air, and as such is cultivated. More recently constructed roads are reinforced with stone archways, to safeguard against quakes. Arches and the buildings themselves are heavily carved with motifs, as elaborate as the craftsmen can manage. Many dwarf homes are carved out by the owner, who pride themselves on adding motifs themselves. As craftsmen believed themselves reaching the pinnacle of what could be done, many dwarves sought a return to the fabled Myrkstein to seek out their creator to learn more.     This search resulted in a dig deep into the heart of the world. What they found, was not what they expected. Other creatures existed in the deep, and they were not friendly. Tribes of orcs and goblins were encountered in the deep caverns and saw easy prey in the pick-wielding craftsmen. The dwarves were pushed back to their great caverns, where only a desperate push of the population beat back the monsters of the deep. Crafting of weapons and armor, and training followed. With emphasis placed against the orcs and goblins from below. Conflict continues to this day, though worse would be encountered as they delved closer to the heart of the world.
