Hraunheim

The capital of Daesol is where the dwarves made their stand against the hordes of orcish and goblinoid forces of the deep. It is the largest cavern known to exist in the subterranean realm. From west to east runs a large molten river, illuminating a significant section of the city in reddish-orange light. Much of the roof of the cavern is covered with bioluminescent moss, which feeds on the fumes from the magma and blacksmithing. Several small lakes of water also exist in the city, fed from deeper springs. Dwarven dwellings tend to be most finely crafted toward the center of the city, along the heart of the magma river. On the outskirts in the cavern walls are carved many homes of the less prominent dwarves. The city itself is vast, but many of the buildings lay abandoned due to the loss of life from before the people learned the art of war. With the city lacking in room for new dwellings, homes are instead purchased. Current carved motifs are grinded away so that the new owner can craft their own unique flair to the dwelling.

Government

Hraunheim is ruled over by King Dyrmundur, who also is sovereign to all existing and future Dwarfholds. He is said to have descended from Bjorn, who banded together the dwarves who fled to the city and worked with them to learn the art of combat. Dyrmundur is said to be an accomplished warrior, though he sees little opportunity to practice the art in his elder years. The people of the realm respect him as a ruler who treats all subjects equal under his laws. Service in arms against the denizens of the deep is mandatory for all who would live in the kingdom. On reaching adulthood, everyone must serve for two years in some capacity. Outlanders who wish to live in the kingdom must also serve a year to be allowed any property. The only exceptions granted for a reprieve from border forts are for dwarven women. With the dwarf population decimated from combat against the depths, women are treated with reverence as the only hope of rekindling the race. Most dwarven women live within the capital, closely guarded and well cared for.
