Dokskjoldur

Closest to the deep border lies Dokskjoldur. The west end of the cavern falls away into a deep canyon, with no bottom visible. A few explorers have braved the walls to climb below, but did not return. Across the mile canyon width runs Langrbru, the Long Bridge. Any attack from the depths that passes the deep border eventually comes to the long bridge, which has held back every attack since Bjorn’s reign. The bridge itself is polished stone, and runs straight across the canyon. No columns support the bridge, which is supported instead by the ancient runes carved into the edges. The runes themselves pulse with magmatic light, but do not emit any heat. Attempts to decipher them have been unsuccessful, but every dwarf knows that the bridge was built by their ancestors. On each side of the bridge sits a small bastion, guarded by around one hundred dwarven defenders. The cool air carries moisture carried from somewhere further along the canyon. To help supplement the small springs present in the town, wind catchers exist on many of the buildings to serve as water reservoirs.

Government

Jarl Wulfgar, the ruler of Dokskjoldur, takes the safety of the people very seriously. As a dwarf of middle age, he has seen many attacks from the depths. It is a point of pride to him that none have breached the inner bastion. All conscripts are trained at the inner bastion, the new learning from the veterans. Their abilities are then honed at the outer bastion, and their official roles chosen on how they perform overall. Wulfgar makes it a point to personally check the reports of the Dverskati (defender champions). As such, he is well respected by the people of the town and most dwarves of the kingdom.
