Restful Path

The Restful Path is the largest of the charitable organizations set up by Zora II Shiroko, also known as Zora the Kind. It is most closely associated with a change in the perception of mental illness, both within the royal family and outside of it. After her husband, Ilya III Shiroko declined mentally beginning in early adulthood, she spent a great deal of her life looking into treatments for him and the mental ailments suffered by the wider family. Working with the medics of the empire, she developed several treatments that have been kept in a heirloom book and added to with each generation.   Along with her work for the family, she began charities to assist those who suffered as they did, but who could not access the medical care afforded to the imperial dynasty. Among these charities was Restful Path, whose main focus was on the more extreme forms of mental illness that caused hallucinations, delusions, and other extremely distressing symptoms. Zora gave the charity this name because she hoped it would be a way for those who suffered to find peace.   The organization was begun in 603 and has continued with its operation into the present day. A medical school specifically dedicated to finding new treatments sprouted from the charity and works closely with them, assisting both the royal family and the wider empire. Satellite sites have grown in number over the centuries as well.   Treatments developed through the organization include teas, herbal pills, and a technique entitled Zora's Hug, which was found to be extremely calming for those undergoing psychotic episodes. The organization is Zora II's most lasting legacy and has produced many doctors through the centuries, along with Bolugama priests. Due to the organization's work and her care for the people, many who work within it have petitioned to make Zora a Dea, but this has not yet come to pass. She is worshipped informally by the organization.
