Dariina Tonomi
Dariina found work as a lady-in-waiting to Queen Uri Sranten of Yzel in 1071 and has since been acting as her confidant. However, she is also a spy for Eoion and keeping Taras Shiroko informed of the discussions in the royal court of Eoion's rival nation. Her abilities with fusion magic allow her to take on the sensory characteristics of animals which gives her enhanced hearing and sight.
According to the records of Yzel, Dariina was a lower noble from Eoion who fled the royal court over fears of increasing violence under Taras. The Yzelian king and queen already had an idea of the emperor as an unstable sadist so when a noble defected and asked for asylum, they agreed. In particular, Uri was taken in by Dariina and the two become close friends.
Knowing his own reputation within the Yzelian court, Taras had promised to raise the rank of Dariina's family, from baronet (vlahu tsansha) to earl (tajagae) if she was able to bring back useful information. He has since kept his end of the bargain, raising the family slowly.
Dariina has provided a great deal of intelligence regarding the economics and possible wartime moves of Yzel as the tensions between the two countries have increased. To her family, she has reported that she is working as a merchant and ambassador in Yzel so as not arouse suspicion at her long absences. No one knows her true purpose and they ascribe their rise in rank to rewards for her service to the empire even through tense times, a lie she encourages.
