Daji (DAH'jee)

Overview

The Daji, formerly known as the Kumeza Tran while part of the main military, were previously part of the main military branch and were specifically tasked with the job of keeping the abominations coming in from the north under control. The split between the hunters and the overall military occurred due to an argument between the hunter head and the top general. The head, Ezrey Lohdan, believed that instead of pulling the hunter division out of the north to fight on the southern and eastern fronts, they should remain north. The general, Gehn Sei, wanted more troops to fight on these lines and thus the Kumeza broke away, changing their name to the Daji, meaning “hunters”. This was an act of treason, however, the Daji were necessary to the fight and so formed their own separate division with a “ruling” structure far from the seat of royal and military power. Their centuries of protecting the northern border have instilled a fierce loyalty among the people who live there and a hatred of both the military and south, the opposite seen in southern regions.

Control

Lohdan Family: Originally, the Lohdans, who had been a large part of the Kumeza Tran for decades, were the leaders of the new Daji organization. They ran the more military-like component and controlled the finances making it viable. With no money being supplied from the state, they needed a separate source of revenue. The Lohdan’s could provide that, along with buying up smaller businesses and looting whatever targets they acquired. During the darker days, the Daji acted as mercenaries in order to stay financially stable. However, as the support in the north grew, the people began giving annual donations to them. This has now become an institution and acts to supplement the money supplied by the Lohdans. The great-great-grandson of Ezrey Lohdan was a weak strategist and was removed as head, replaced with a new leader. This leader’s family controlled the Daji for generations, while the Lohdan’s still provided personnel and financial stability. The two are civil but have a deep rivalry, the leadership of the Daji changing hands between the two over the centuries. Currently, the Lohdans are in power, which allowed Richard to maintain direct control of the RAICO project.
Tsere family: The Tseres were a military family before the Kumeza Tran became the Daji. They had a professional rivalry and noble mutual respect for the Lohdans. However, when the descendant of Ezrey Lohdan became weak, they maneuvered their own family member, Ula Tsere into the leadership position. She led the Daji out of mercenary work and secured the donations from the northern people. Under her leadership, and those of her subsequent family members, the Daji returned to a strong force. However, the same misfortune as the Lohdans befell them and they were forced from power. Since then, the back and forth has continued between the two families. Currently, the Lohdans are in charge, while the Tseres run the tactical, field divisions. While Richard is in charge of the RAICO project, he answers to Marion Tsere, who heads tactical weaponry, and must prove the creature is functional. Officially, the two hold the same rank within the Daji military structure. This causes a large amount of friction between the two.
