Balance

This myth found in the Book of Scale, the defining religious text of Uneism, details the prophecy of how Scale will defeat the evil chaos god, Meksiehgd, and reform the elements into one balanced, stable force.

Summary

At the beginning of the world, there was a single source of magic, a nebulous collection of energy that held every element in existence and some that were only present then. Scale watched over this and kept each element in balance with its opposite. With this stability, peace reigned over the world and humans were able to live in paradise.   However, with every force there is a counterforce and the universe's darkest corners birthed Meksiehgd from their depths. He abhorred the peace and wanted chaos and destruction, to see the humans and animals of the world scattered and frightened, but with Scale always guarding the collection, he could not get close enough.   In order to destroy the power that held the universe together, he created a distraction, pretending he had secretly found another part of the collection. Using the darkness, he created a ball of energy and presented it to Scale as proof of his discovery. Unsure as to whether it was real or not, Scale took the new piece and began examining it.   With the guardian's attention away from the collection, Meksiehgd smashed it to pieces, releasing the elements. The resulting crash spread them across the world where they condensed into the six essences known in magic.   Horrified by what he had allowed to happen, Scale descended into the human world and taught the people who to harness essence magic. He gave them markers to hold magic within their bodies, magical cores passed down in families and created from the individual's own soul.   He promised to gather the elements again, to bring them back into balance and defeat Meksiehgd completely so the world could never be disrupted again. This defeat will come after a great battle. When it is won, Scale will absorb Meksiehgd into himself and use his own soul as a balancer for the chaos that created the god. At the end of the Split Time, there will be paradise once again for all who wish to see it.

Historical Basis

Both Uneism and Tekel have stories regarding a split in elements. These similarities give followers of both the idea that there must be some history. Practitioners of Bolugama do not have this.

Cultural Reception

Followers of Tekel, which is the majority of the Yzel Kingdom believe that the story of Scale and Meksiehgd is nothing more than a variant on their beliefs regarding the destruction of the source of all magic by Clohdus and the return to one collection sought by Padka.    Uneism disagrees with this and holds that Scale is a separate god from the pantheon of Tekel.    The followers of Bolugama see the story as nonsense and contend that if there was no unified source, then magic would be impossible as the essences would be constantly competing with one another rather than acting in unison.
