The Rising Koi: Chapter 16 Report

General Summary

After a busy two weeks that forged the adventuring party known as The Rising Koi, our adventurers were given a chance to relax with some downtime within Silverport before their dinner at the Pale House with Captain Katsuro and Magistrate Shiro.   The Akamori Mages sought out guidance and some respite from the City back in the countryside of the Akamori Homestead. Here they reported to their Grandfather on the ongoings of what they had seen in their adventures since they last spoke, asking about the mysterious symbol that Bimbledorf had seen in his visions during their struggle with Chunky the Water Elemental. When Natsu was unable to give any proper insights, Yengandor took to their library– finding a book written by a Taka Sho, who worked for the Shuwa Clan during the war, that listed it under other variations of Transmutation Circles within his book. A book unfortunately damaged from age and whatever events transpired for it to be among their family’s shelves, obfuscating the context of the particular symbol.   Daiono was happy to spend his break from risking his life for coin to peruse the street vendors for meals before looking for entertainment in the shrinking fighting pit scene. Here he witnessed the ruthlessness of Nikuya “The Butcher” of the Katta family, where the proprietor of the establishment warned him against pissing off the leader of Kuromizu Clan’s brutal enforcer family. A step up from ‘the Katta boys’ that Arata had spoken of from his past.   Xiyan enjoyed her relative solitude where she could relax, after paying a visit to her formerly exclusive contact within the walls of Silverport– the owner of The White Lotus, Su MingMing– who was oddly packing up shop. At least for the time being. She mentioned an ill granddaughter up north, and said that depending on how the winds shifted in the coming days that she may or may not return. Giving an odd warning of caution to her business associate before purchasing the parts she salvaged off the Hanzaki.   As Bimbledorf and Yengandor returned to the city, after Bimbledorf caused enough of a disturbance to get more notes taken by the Silverguard manning the gates into town, they checked back in about the Temple Fire. Here they were able to discover collaborated accounts of shady women lingering in the area of the night. Details were scarce, but between the shards of pottery littering the Temple that clearly didn’t belong there and the accounts of suspects– they were able to piece together that this was more than likely a malicious attack by a group of women of no fewer than 4… possibly more. With this information and the hour of their dinner at the Pale House fast approaching, they hurried to reconvene with the rest of their party.   After some quick errands to look more presentable (save their homeless healer), they climbed up the hill, passed security checks… all before finally reaching the Pale House. Here they were greeted by Captain Katsuro Ken himself. He led the party beyond the gardens, through the manor of minimalistic decor, and to a dining hall where they were granted a veritable buffet of Seafood, Rice, and Soups. There were gifted drinks of Plum Wines and Sake, and the two most powerful men of Silverport wished to know more about their guests that had impressed the Warden Lieutenant so. The Captain spoke of his plan to finally purge the lasting corruption that had lingered beyond his Crackdowns after the War. And that when his work was done here Silverport would be able to use their stability to bring Trade, Law, and Order to the rest of Minamishu– to hopefully reunify the island back into a prosperity not seen since the Shuwa Clan before the War.   Such talks seemed to be going well until Magistrate Shiro finally drank from his cooled tea. Tea that was apparently tainted with a powerful poison that ruptured multiple vessels within his body– leading to a horrific death in the arms of the Captain of the Silverguard. Devastated, he had the Manor put on lockdown and the Rising Koi escorted to the Guestroom while he tried to find who was responsible for the assassination. Confused and horrified for what this meant for their hometown, the Rising Koi is forced to wait until morning to discover what aftermath awaits in the wake of the kindly Magistrate Shiro Kosuke’s passing….
