The Rising Koi Saga: Chapter 20 Report

General Summary

While ruminating on the new information gleaned from their trips both to the Akamori Homestead and to the home of the late Okaji, the Rising Koi adventuring party has once reconvened as a whole. After catching up Xiyan and Apollo, the group comes to the realization that all leads point to this mysterious Sea Monk Tavern.   But finding the place proved more difficult than they may have anticipated, as the Docks District of Silverport has fallen far from its glory days before the Akatsuki Rebellion. Now the place has become a home for the poor and disenfranchised as it lay a decrepit labyrinth, a challenge for those uninitiated. As the Rising Koi attempted to find the elusive tavern they witnessed: desperate mobs forced to pay exorbitant fees for a humble meal, Silverguard violence on the masses, and an eccentric inventor with bizarre products. All before finally finding their target location.
Eager for answers, as the party entered The Sea Monk Tavern, it wouldn’t take long for the gravity of the situation to sink in. After all but Diaono sampled the strange custom liquor of the establishment, the suspicious man from the day after the Festival sat with the party. Something from the Liquor allowed them to sense Something about the massive Barkeep, their new drinking party, all 20 patrons, and the very entertainer on stage as she began to sing.

Below the thunders of the upper deep,

Their drinking partner seemed unsurprised to see the party within this elusive tavern, he even knew the last names of the Mage cousins.

Far, far beneath in the abyssal sea,

He reminded them of his warning of choosing their friends wisely, last they spoke. Scolding them on their selection. But he was feeling in a merciful mood, willing to “Return a Favor for a Favor.” When asked what Favor they had done, he just smiled and said he was surprised they hadn’t figured that out yet.

His ancient uninvaded sleep…

His Favor was simple: He would allow them to leave here alive, they would both forget they ever stepped foot in this bar, and they would both forget about the Rising Koi’s connections with the Silverguard. Failure on any of these parts would forfeit his kindness, leaving the party to calculate their odds…
