The Tower Sentinels

The life of a Tower Sentinel is not for the faint of heart. They are tasked with the role of maintaining The Spire Defense Network. These brave souls journey to the farthest reaches of the realm; carrying with them the immense burden of ensuring the saftey of their world, for if they falter they are no longer safe from the other planes. Their task is not only demanding, but it also requires immense skill, patience, and the ability to survive in isolation, as they are often subject to the dangers of the world. The Sentinels rotate to the next tower as the previous convoy of Sentinels arrives.
The primary duty of the Sentinel's is to re-encrypt the magical seals of each tower making it incredibly hard to break in. The seals are comprised of arcane sigils that are etched into the very stones of the towers, they protect the entrances of the towers so that the towers cannot be tampered with. When they re-encrypt the seals they weave fresh magic into the seal re-fortifying the ancient enchantments. This requires a deep understanding of the arcane arts used to perform the enchantment, a form of magic that is nearly entirely forgotten in Seiderheim.
Training new Sentinels is another essential responsibilty that fulls upon the Elder Sentinels. As the Sentinels travel between towers they occasionally run into encounters along the road, when they find surviving now orphaned children they take them in as new recruits and train them in the field as they grow. By the time the child comes of age they are able to complete most of the Sentinel duties.
Clearing the tower of pests us a duty that can be very challenging. Various magical and non-magical creatues build nests around the towers, attacking Sentinels and potentially disrupting the magical protections.
