The Show Peacocks of Arazar

In the cities and settlements of the Arazar they raise, show, trade, and sell Peacocks. They are breed and their chicks are sold based on how high their parents are valued. Each bird carries with it a value, based on its coloration, total plumage, wingspan, and size. The bigger the bird, the more valuable the bird, however, there are exceptions for extremely beautiful birds that are small. These birds sell for hundreds of Platinum, sometimes thousands of Platinum. Many breeders trade and sell their birds at auctions, which are held ever fourth day of the month, which in some settlements has become a sort of festival day.

At one of these auctions, Lord Featherbeauq the most expensive bird ever sold, a smaller bird, had unique colorations and plumage, having a slight orange tint instead of a teal to blue like most Peacocks. He was sold and then killed and taxidermized the same day, put on display at some eccentric Noble’s house, never given the chance to breed. Since then a few other unique colorations have been seen, some greener, some bluer, but thus far not another orange one has been seen, making it the rarest mutation ever seen. Many a breeder has dreamed of finding another orange Peacock, only to go their entire career without ever seeing one.

It is said that a third of the total money earned in the Arazar region is due to these Show Peacocks. Many a person has gone broke buying a bird and hoping it would rate well at auction, only to find the bird had been painted and was not nearly as good looking. Some Hens have been shown, but they never did well at auction, unless they hatched a chick with a beneficial mutation, then they sell for much more, sometimes more than the males.

In recent years, the Hens have been getting more attention, as their soft tones and browns are far more unique, and much subtler. This trend has only been going on for a short period, but it is lowering the cost of the Male Peacocks and causing a commotion among the more famous breeders.
