Maiki
- Mai (death, slayer) and -ki (void). - - (a.k.a. Mikey)
Maiki (pronounced Mikey) was born in the forests of Kyonin, in the village of Siavenian, 4576 AR. Her father, Edhron, was a soldier and member of the Lantern Bearers or Shin'Rakorath, an elven organization the aims to be a light against the coming darkness, concerned with fighting the drow and demonic forces. He went to fight 4631 AR in the ancient capital of Celwynvian and was never heard or seen from again. Her mother, Amanith, is a successful bard and continues to write poems, songs, and stories at home.
She is the youngest of seven siblings. The oldest is her sister Bradha'keth, a elven aristocrat. Next is her sister Ficelye, a stubborn and impartial warrior that favored the guisarme. Third born was her brother, Ka'galdenor, a priest of Alseta the Welcomer. Fourth born her sister, Baelaina, a mercenary that wields a battleaxe and heavy shield. Fifth born is her sister Tabetha, a fighter trained in full plate. And her sixth is another sister, Endakoeh, who became a druid.
Having been born on the 3rd of Lamashan, 4567 AR, she was alive in the Age of Entronement, which ended in 4606 AR when Aroden, the god of humanity died. The Age of Lost Omens began and tremendous storms engulfed the world. Then came the rise of a supposed living deity named Razmir, united an area of the river kingdoms to Kyonin's north into the nation of Razmiran. They raided into Kyonin's borders in between 4633 AR and 4683 AR, until the Berm was created. A magical arboreal defense against the threat of invasion by their neighbors to the north, it was miles-long stand of semi-sentient trees along the Glass River.
In her youth she fell into a bad crowd and met Danethil, a half-elven rogue. Together the two of them and other outcasts robbed the local area of various things they could easily get away with. Eventually Maiki and Danethil were caught, but all evidence pointed to Danethil as the mastermind behind the group and Maiki was given a choice. To accept a fiery brand upon her hand, or to put the brand upon her friend. Danethil pleaded for it to be him, by Maiki refused and accepted the brand upon her left hand. It was a symbol of Greed, to all that would recognize it.
The two of them were cast out, Danethil having departed Kyonin entirely to areas unknown. Maiki resided in the bordering forests of Siavenian, where her sibling Endakoeh supported her. Eventually she learned to survive all by herself in the wild, and in 4708 AR she departed her home and made way for the capital of Galt, the city of Isarn.
In the former city of art, she met a couple halflings, who went by Nightflame and Nightcloud, both rogues but Nightflame had proficiency with the arcane and a shortsword, where Nightcloud had a repeating crossbow and dagger. They were smuggling a valuable bust of a queen and requested her assistance during their travels to find a buyer. Maiki joined them and traveled with them down the Sellis River through the Verduran Forests without any major incidents and reached the Taldor port city of Cassomir.
Here they noticed a human watching over the boats, reading a book. The halflings pointed the observer out to Maiki, seeking a distraction, Maiki then set out to kidnap her! The human evaded her but eventually met up at The Sword Point inn, where she was suppose to be meeting the halflings. She offered the human, Oreleth, an opportunity, as she planned to take the valuable bust away from the halflings and needed a partner. The human alchemist agreed and together they went upstairs to recover the bust, hidden underneath the bottom drawer of a dresser.
Oreleth recovered the bust, and unfortunately activated its curse. The bust carried some of the essence of her Infernal Majestrix, Queen Abrogail Thrune I, who's spirit tried to possess Oreleth and turn Maiki into her willing servant. The halflings intervened, along with an older gnome who splashed the bust with holy water. They returned the bust to its satchel, and scolded the two for betraying them and almost being possessed. They apologized for the deception, as they were not trying to sell the bust but to bring it to a safe place where its evil could be contained. They also offered them an opportunity, to seek further training and job opportunities by joining the Pathfinder Lodge in Absalom. They accepted.
