Civilization and Culture

History

As the The War of the Second Age waged on to its ultimate conclusion, faith in the world crumbled. Some who once wished to create and live decided that Scandagliare was no longer worth the struggle and pain it created. These people became known as the Cult of Zouq. Wishing for the destruction of the world to unanimously end all the suffering, they managed to summon a creature capable of just going that.
Be it a granted wish of the Mad God Zouq or a manifestation from the war itself, the Nidhogg came to be. When it does not sleep, it consumes. It has no allies. It cannot tell creatures from plants, it only knows that it all much be obliterated.
The desecration of the Nidhogg started with the saurians. Leveling buildings and whipping the race to extinction, the Nidhogg moved on to leveling much of North Knopia into a flat wasteland.
In the midst of destruction and chaos, a band of mercenaries created an offensive front against the monster. The Brothers Brill laid magical traps, rallied some of the best fighters in the land, and summoned magical allies from across the land to stop the beast. The battle alone lasted a consecutive month with many casualties before the beast was considered slain. The land the creature fell turned the grain red and became known as the Crimson Fields. The Brothers, who had taken heavy casualty vowed to protect the land against threats the magnitude of the Nidhogg.
With the Cult of Zouq still an existing force, it is believed that the Nidhogg will return if not already sleeping somewhere on Scandagliare.
