S03E12: Stormsworn and the Dreadnaught Report

General Summary

Two sessions ago, the heroes moved in on the site of the The Tower of Storms again. Reports were coming in that a huge creature or ship or something was spotted run aground on some rocks near the Tower. The last time the heroes were here it was to defeat Moesko the Anchorite of Talos who had placed his own beating heart into the eery light of the S21. The Tower of Storms Report, and Kanenas nearly came under the full control of the Mantle of Talos, a squid-like helmut and armor that controlled him for a short while.
This time when they arrived, they found that there was indeed a huge dreadnaught ship aground at the base of the tower. They found half-orc anchorites roaming the deck of the ship on watch. Zombies were nailed to the rocks around the ship as a deterrent, perhaps, to future attackers. Zith sneaked close enough to fire an assassin's arrow into one of the Anchorites of Talos , but it was not enough to one-shot him. So with the alarm sounded, the rest of the team charged into the fight.
Not long into it, the "Boss" showed up on deck. Fheralai Stormsworm herself strode into view, a bulky, armored war priest with kraken-like features and a super bad attitude.
Kanenas at one point took her over the edge of the ship with him, she splashed into the water, but his Ring of Water Walking kept him at the surface. From under the water, she summoned what looked like a spectral kraken from the depths, and chased Kanenas back up to the rocky outcropping upon which the tower still stood. The kraken tentacles worked around her like a damage shield, or death aura. And they smacked Zith Zinyra  pretty hard and laid into Kanenas over and over again.
Kanenas grappled her and ran away from the others and out over the water, under constant attack from the Kraken arms. Apparently feeling a romance coming on, Fheralai encouraged him to stay with her forever...and he suddenkly felt frozen in place holding her. He was fine with that since they were safely away from the others.
Anaea noticed something very wrong and started to fly close, but Fheralai was already at her plan. She pulled the Ring of Water Walking off Kanenas' hand and tossed it to the paper dragon and she and the Knight sloshed down under the surface of the water, leading the Rune Knight to a watery doom.
Kanenas could not shake the power of her spell that held him fast in place. And he felt the life slipping away from him as he started to drown. Spitefully, Fheralai jabbed her claws between his armor plates and under his ribs, causing the last of his breath to escape and he fell uncounscious...too far from his friends for them to help.
But Ozus was working out another plan. He cast Light on the Ring, and Anea took it in her snout and plunged under the water to find her Knight, trying to hone in on his location with her telepathy. Zith followed as quickly behind as he could, teleporting and swimming with all haste.
Kanenas was sinking fast toward the bottom, his plate armor now his anchor. Zith tried to get close enough in the murky water to get the ring on his finger, and barely hung onto him as they both plumetted. The ring slid on...and nothing Kanenas was dying, and completely unaware and unable to activate the ring. Surprised, Zith quickly pulled the ring back off, got into position, struggling not to breathe in...he was fully out of oxygen and starting to convulse. He slipped the ring on himself and activated it, just as he started to slip away and let the water into his lungs.
Zooming to the surface like an inflating life raft, his rise pushing Kanenas just ahead of him he made it but likely too late...the rise to the surface was too fast, and the trauma too much. Zith arrived into the air with Kanenas, both of them on death's door.
Ezra rushed out onto the water as Ozus cast Water Walk on Kanaenas to keep him from going back under. Ezra laid the blessing of life upon both of them and they convulsed awake expelling the sea from their lungs.
They were saved!
