Morpher
A more intelligent type of ooze, Morphers are masters of shapeshifting. Many hide as objects, drawing prey in before ambushing them. A morpher may hide as a berry bush, ripe with fruit to draw in hungry beasts. Or it may become an “injured” deer, drawing in predators or monsters before turning the tables. Some more ambitious morphers choose to practice becoming humanoids, attempting to integrate into societies. While not always malevolent, their talents at impersonation and infiltration make them prized members of rogue’s guilds. They can sneak in somewhere in disguise, kill anyone or steal whatever they want, then ooze away unseen.
Basic Information
Anatomy
While Morphers share the amorphous form of their ooze ancestors, they have learned to shape themselves into other forms, as well as changing color to further their disguise. The more magically talented Morphers have even been known to employ low level illusions to compliment their shapeshifting. This shapeshifting has become their defining ability, and they can become just about any object or creature of similar size.
Genetics and Reproduction
Morphers reproduce the same way as normal oozes, through splitting. They do not do it when shapeshifted though, as splitting in half would break their disguise.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
While they share the ooze's magic detection, morpher's heightened intellect has allowed their perception senses to become more refined. Instead of vague shapes in the mist, morphers can distinguish what the input they get means. They can tell the difference between different objects, which is something oozes are incapable of. When they take the form of a creature, they have also learned to look in the direction of stimulus to mimic seeing or hearing it.
