Healing Potion
The most widely known and loved potion on Savinaru, healing potions are a staple of every medical facility across the world. These bottles of simple red liquid possess healing properties, with stronger brews giving more potent healing. Most people are familiar with the basic variety however, as that is the one that multiple factories across Savinaru brew industrial quantities of. These potions are then used as a common medical remedy. Valorport is one of both the leading producers and consumers of healing potions, and their adventurers always go out with a bottle or two just in case.
Healing Potions are always a shade of red, though experienced alchemists and adventurers can tell the difference between the various types through the shade of red of the potion.
Manufacturing process
Healing potions are simple enough to make that the basic version has been mass produced in huge industrial vats. The process boils down to adding all the required herbs and reagents into a vat of purified water, then setting the vat over heat and stirring until the water turns that iconic red. The biggest difference is the ingredients used to make the potion.
History
Healing potions have been around for a long time. The exact date is still debated, but the earliest found record of something most people agree is a healing potion was made by the dworc alchemist Garugal Flameseer. A well respected alchemist of his time, he created the first healing potion through great trial and error. After years of effort, he found the recipe for the "Elixir of Perfect Health", a primitive healing potion. The recipe was refined and perfected through the years, leading to the modern recipe widely used today.
Significance
The significance of healing potions on the people of Savinaru has been immense. Injuries removed and wounds healed with one drink of this miraculous elixir. Similar magic could previously be called by those trained in healing spells, but now it could be both widely distributed and used by anyone. No more begging priests or bards to heal you, just drink a bottle of this potion and you feel like new. The utility of a hospital in a bottle was not lost on the world at large, and those who had healing potions became more powerful players in the world. If you had healing potions and your enemy didn't, you had a massive advantage, as your troops could heal up and get back in the fight and your citizens had far fewer injuries and could be more productive. Once the recipe was widely known, every nation with the means began producing vast quantities of healing potions to keep a stockpile.
The basic healing potion is extremely common, being made and drunk across Savinaru. There are two more powerful varieties as well, the Greater and the Superior healing potion. The Greater Healing Potion is a more powerful but rarer version, and hasn't been automated yet so it is still the realm of the artisan. Finally, the Superior Healing Potion can only be made by experts of alchemy, and is thus the rarest healing potion. It also lives up to its name by being the most potent healing potion.
Basic healing potions are the easiest, they just require the right blend of herbs and a bottle to hold the mixture. They can also be created by harvesting the Anima Flowers of a Corpse Creeper. An average Corpse Creeper will yield enough Anima Flowers to brew several healing potions.
Greater healing potions require the same herbs, and some more potent ingredients. They need the blood of a regenerating creature, most often a hydra, in order to enhance the potion's healing power.
Superior Healing Potions are no mere alchemy- they require a magical kick for maximum potency. It is not uncommon for those creating Superior Healing Potions to start with a base of holy water to draw upon the divine to enhance the brew.
I enjoy the notion of mass producing healing potion. I'm just wondering how that affects your world. As you indicated, no longer begging priests or bards has harmed the church's income or people follow their faith. However, the article about healing potions is quite interesting. I really enjoyed it
