Miraculously, a group of mercenaries manages to explore the ruins of Erinion and escape alive--something none have managed to do before. They retrieve a Second Darkwater Chest on employ from the Golryon Stormborn Duchy, and its discovery changes the world, forever.

In the Ruins of the Ancient Elven Empire of Erinion, a mercenary group under Captain Nok Jakken discovers a second Darkwater Chest, identical to the first, but with different Charms and Runes within.   Upon returning across the Bay, however, disagreements over who ought to receive the wealth of magic before them turns to violence, and opportunistic pirates arrive to make matters worse.   The chest is soon after sunk to the bottom of the sea by pirates, open, and its contents of runic charms and schema and enchanted items flood throughout the southern seas, shattering the 152-year grip the magocrats had on magic. While actual use and understanding of the arcane remains in the hands of the Arcane Conservatory, magical items begin to spread... and they cannot stop it.
