The Houses are now Runic Houses, and simply possessing the correct Runes allows you to join their noble ranks, and gain their power through blood transfusion, created by Doctor Jonathan Walker several years prior.
The Runeborn population explodes outward, 20 years after the Sorcerer's Crusade. Blood and magic is inherently linked, and through a new method of blood transfusion, a House's intense tie to their runes can be easily shared. Familial blessing becomes a magical name with weight, but is no longer famillial.
