Erlin'sozran Cassani of House Stormborn

Erlin has been both a citizen of Pharos through the Dark Times before the discovery of magic, a citizen of Golryon as a bookstore owner, an Arcanist of the Arcane Conservatory after the discovery of magic, and a scholar of the Empyrean Archives as a citizen of Jeria. As a nearly 300 year old city elf, Erlin has seen the greatest times and most eventful years of this modern age.   He lived through the Identity Crisis of 860, when dozens of government officials, including the new Duke of Golryon after Lofus Stormborn's death, were all revealed to be dopplegangers. As martial law turned to the Arcane Conservatory taking control of the city and organizing into a "temporary" government, Erlin was mid-viewing of a Rune, that of Thought. This failed, incomplete viewing caused irreparable damage to his mind, causing him to occasionally completely wipe his own conscious mind when encountering various mental images or words that were "lost" to this viewing. A stutter was also developed, and both of these things made casting his already incredible magic more than difficult.   Three decades later, during the Asterian Initiative in Jeria, he lived as a scholar and researcher of knowledge less arcane and more philosophical. He encountered the Reclaimers in 889 AB, and aided them through discovering the coming of the Headless Lord and the latent theories of Disaster. In a cosmic journey through the dimensions, they encountered Yel-Tor, and completed his viewing of the Rune of Thought. This did not remove his stutter, but did heal his mind, and allowed him to pioneer the Mental Spell Circuit that allowed him to cast even more academically profound magic than before, without needing a single word.   He returned to the Conservatory after this (and the destruction of his home due to the Headless Lord's attack of Talon) and led a great number of discoveries, including that of the Cassani Lucidity Paradox, describing the difficulty of lucidity in the Dreamer's Construct, as conscious thought and design requires a level of concentration that is inherently incapable to the subconscious. It also finds that a worse fate, taken from old Erini texts, detailed a fate where one falls deeper into dream rather than out of it. This is believed to be caused by the subconscious filling more gaps in the dream than the conscious mind can find, and the body's senses becoming too distant to possibly wake the Dreamer ever again. Only more and more Lucid layers will be created, forevermore.   As the War of Manifest Mythopeia began in 892, Erlin at first tried to reason with the Conservatory to meet the demands of the Empire and Meneval, but such a hope of a pacifist was futile in the nation state that the beloved college of scholars he helped found had become over the last two hundred years. He left Golryon yet again, and now lives with his closest friend Harran in Talon, once again.
