Avernal Demons

These are those which appear in our nightmares. Those we fear. Those we know lurk beneath our feet, in the caverns untold and forgotten.

Much of this is knowledge recovered from diplomatic relations with The Second Jeriec Empire, and is therefore tainted by their bias and tendency for oral myths. This description particularly, considering their vilification of Avernus, and how they revere him as a God, a Father, a King, an Underworld, and a Geological Formation. How he can be all five is beyond any Warden.   Demons are the frightening and powerful ideas of Avernus. Deep within the flesh-caverns, skin-caves, and blood-tunnels is the God's Cortex. These are the ideas of Avernus given shape and form. He adored making ideas tangible things, and he inspired the sin that created the Demons.   All these physical beings that spawn forth from sputtering pools of malice create the Demons that fight and war to become the strongest, as is the law of Avernus. They are all made of material given sentience, as the first monstrous humanoids of his Age. The Hob were made of the mud, but in his curse-and-sacrifice-induced coma, his rage at being kept from being real festers.   The Sins of the Second Son are made of stone, fire, or another powerful material, such as blood or tears. No matter what they were before creation, Demons are either modeled after one of Avernus' original sins, that he introduced to the world, or further sins that he had not the time to inflict.   Examples are the Vrock (Wrath Demon), the Succubus (Lust Demon), and the Shemhazian (Murder/Mutilation Demon).   Weakness: Elysian Bronze. Fortunately, their sole weakness is a material with which the Wardens are uniquely armed with. An ancient monster-hunting cult worshiped this bronze, and for good reason. It may be the only thing that the Demons fear, besides the God-King himself.   Let's pray he doesn't wake up.   IN AETERNUM. AD INFINITUM.
