The Winged Monastery

High atop Mount Aramok in the western mountain range lies the Winged Monastery, a settlement of monks and roc-worshippers from Two Rivers.

Structure

The head monk's closest disciples are known as the Wingblades, and are responsible for training initiates in combat and the ways of the monastery.

History

After the great storms struck the young city of Two Rivers, a split occurred. Some believed the roc allowed the disasters, judging the city unworthy for failing to fight the monsters of the the rivers, while others argued the roc was no god worth worshipping. After some time of brewing tensions, many followers of the roc abandoned the city, choosing to form a new settlement closer to their god.
Not long after, the roc was slain by The Twelve, considering it a symbol of the elves. Great distress spread through the monastery, and many left the faith, choosing to return to the city or join the The Surish. Those who remained, however, discovered what they believed to be the roc's egg, and the faith was reforged with the belief that the roc was not the god of power they once thought, but one of rebirth and growth.
On a pilgrimage to tend to the egg, a young monk discovered it to have hatched. The monastery was delighted, holding a festival and declaring the Shell a holy relic.

Tenets of Faith

The Roc is Old. The Roc has lived many lifetimes, learning and growing from each.
The Roc is Great. Its power and splendor are the result of ages of toil and effort, not gifts of evolution.
The Roc is Wise. It judges the strong and weak, the selfless and selfish, the brave and cowardly, and grants gifts and curses accordingly.
The Roc is Mortal. The Roc's teachings are yet to be perfected, and they live on through the generations as the the Roc lives on through the Shell.
