Montgomery

Montgomery of Forlan (a.k.a. Monty)

Montgomery is a young man of Ardran born to a family of farmers in Forlan, a small hamlet within the hold of Quilton. His family is one of four who collectively owned and worked the hamlet's fields, though none could boast a particularly prestigious lifestyle.   Typical for a young man of average birth faced with the uneventful life of a laborer, Montgomery had spent a majority of his adolescence hoping for a more eventful future. Though the establishment of Port Yale and subsequent imperial claim over the Ardranian territories had come three years before the boy's birth, the regular reminiscing of his parents and fellow laborers towards the times prior to imperial encroachment – though such reminiscing was often limited to a lack of worry regarding neighboring trade, as Quilton had gone mostly unaffected by direct Durranian conflict save for occasional political spats regarding the placement of imperial soldiers near its western boundaries – had left that hope pointed primarily in an anti-imperial direction. These sentiments began boiling over in the latter half of 1466 when news of the Havenbridge Massacre spread across Ardran's western half.   Montgomery abandoned the farm in 1468, heading eastward in the hope of joining up with one of the more organized militia groups directly engaging with Durranian forces there. His unfamiliarity with the heavy population density of large cities lead him further east still than the hold of Brimmingshire, eventually coming to the forests of Wayford wherein he sought to join the Rivermen.   Lacking any real form of combat experience, the young man grouped up with a small band of similarly untrained militiamen working outside of the Rivermen's more 'official' patrols. His first outing with said band ended in disaster after an impromptu assault against an unimportant imperial scouting outpost which they had falsely believed to be in possession of supply and weapons shipments from Westguard. With the rebel militia suffering extreme injury and losses against the better trained and equipped Durranian troops, Montgomery himself was nearly killed before the unexpected intervention of The Gravewalker.
