Banshee

In the empty fields of yore, ere the maidens sing their song
A terrible image of horror and despair, a banshee is formed when a being dies while experiencing overwhelming sorrow or loss, usually for a close friend or loved one. Though rare, the most common sightings of these phantoms come from the lingering spirits of grieving widows of those lost at war or the victims of pillages and raids - a few banshees have even been spawned from those who took their own lives. Unlike other phantoms, a banshee retains none of its previous livelihood and sanity even from the moment of its rebirth, simply wandering without aim as it unendingly shrieks and bawls to itself.   Sometimes referred to as "Weeping Widows," a banshee is easy to identify from afar due to the fact that it continuously gives off a horrible series of sobs and moans. If disturbed, a banshee will lash out at who or whatever it first sees, letting out a terrible, ear-splitting wail that shatters glass and temporarily deafens most intruders. If this fails, the banshee will begin to attack, but may begin to cower in fear and return to its sobbing if it starts to lose.   Banshees are bound to the spot they died on, usually through some item which was sentimental to them during their life. A banshee may be put to rest if the item is destroyed, though one might find the locating of such an item to be difficult with a spectral corpse screeching and flailing at their every move.
