Dwarves

The dwarves of Sanzeia are a industrious race who value skill, craftmanship, trade, self resilience, and the value of celebration. They average about a foot (30 cm) shorter than humans, but just as heavy. They have spread throughout the world of Sanzeia, though their cultural centers lie in the territories of Khiz and the Gunargite Commonwealth. Dwarves are considered the forth most populous race in Sanzeia (after Humans, Elves, and Halflings respectively).   Dwarves in Sanzeia have split into two large cultural groups owing to a dispute so ancient that no living dwarf can remember the actual reason for it; though dwarves still maintain the divide and are antagonistic to members of the other group, in modern day it is more of a professional rivalry than a blood feud. The traditional mountain holdings in the Spine of the World house the cities of the Khizar Dwarves and are said to cut deep into the mountains so much that there are entire dwarven states that the surface mortals have never seen. Tradition holds that sometime in the Age of Myth the Gunargite Dwarf were driven from their mountain homes to the far west past the elven lands. While building large fortresses above the ground, these dwarves otherwise see themselves as the stewards of the true dwarven culture.

Common Myths and Legends

Dwarves were created when the primary dwarven god Hedir forged them to help with the creation of the rest of life at the Dawn of Mortals though they were finely made, they were not living things until the storm-maiden, Maredeth breathed life into the first dwarf.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Dwarves have a reputation for being surly, stoic, and slow to warm to the shorter lived mortal races. Despite their loud complaints about having to put up with the younger races, dwarves are commonly found integrated into the common society of Sanzeia. While some dwarves stick to their keeps, their are just as many travelers, merchants, and teachers. One line of thought is the dwarves both enjoy associating with others and complaining about it; a theory that has brought loud complaints from the greater dwarven community.
