Gravastor
This huge beatles hold the key to Somfaux's fabled channels. Native to the foothills above Somfaux, these beasts are lured into digging the trenches of the channels by a special dance called the Skabra Dance. Skilled performers of this dance can lure a beatle to dig a canal as fast as a man can walk.
Basic Information
Anatomy
A giant beatle the size of a pony with red claws and mandibles. The carapace of a Gravastor is bright metalic blue, which is much prized by the Dyers guild for the shade of blue that it creates.
Genetics and Reproduction
The male will dig a hole and deposit his sperm. He will then "sing" by rubbing together his scales and calling to the females. Once a female has found his nest, she lays her eggs. The nest is then sealed and neither visit it again. The female lays around a hundred eggs, but only one in ten will hatch. The hatchingly will remain in the nest and eat the unhatched eggs until their third molt.
Growth Rate & Stages
Newly hatched Gravastor remain in their nest eating unhatched eggs until their third molt when their carapace is hard and takes on the typical blue color. At this point they are adult, though they continue to grow throughout their lives.

The Gravastor requires as much grass as a cow to eat.
