Glock Species in Sands of Saraya | World Anvil

Glock

"So Thuburro's eat Bolt Bats, Kreen love Thuburro blood, Skrays catch Kreen, and Dagglers lure Skrays. But what eats Dagglers?"
Hearing the buzz of a lone Kreen is already enough sign of danger with the uncertainty of it being a lure or a scout for the hive. Add to this the fact that Dagglers are prey themselves to the rare Glocks. Little is known about them, for more often than not sighting one spells certain death.

Basic Information

Anatomy

"You don't want to know."
Five long, pale tentacles surrounding a gaping maw with concentric rings of fangs that only grow larger and more numerous with age. Pulsing ichor glands at the base of each tentacle, and a hard pointed head that allows easier burrowing through the sands. It does not have eyes, rather it senses vibrations in the earth through it's head and magic with an orb that lies within its body.

Dietary Needs and Habits

"So in conclusion, you see any red sand, any at all, and you turn right back."
Upon sensing prey, a Glock stalks it from beneath the sands until it pauses for but a moment. Then it positions its mouth directly beneath and releases a red ichor that mixes with the ground to form sticky quicksand that quickly dehydrates a trapped creature. While the prey struggles, it opens its mouth and lifts its tentacles up, out of the sand and wraps around it to quicken its sinking to doom. Elder Glocks add their huge fangs to this phase, crushing their meal into their mouths rather than biting into them.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

"And if sorcery wasn't unappealing enough..."
It is suspected that Daggler's luring and Thuburro abilities work in much the same way that human magic does, and that the Glocks have evolved their magic-sensing abilities to help hunt these main food sources. Nevertheless, it is known that using magic in a Glock's hunting grounds is a death wish.
