Asteris

Asteris is the goddess of the moon and daughter of Helim and Hessia.  Like the moon, she is ever changing, and is is worshipped in four aspects, reflecting the phases of the moon:
  • Asteris the Maiden, goddess of virgins and innocents - the waxing moon
  • Asteris the Warrior, goddess of battle - the full moon
  • Asteris the Mother, goddess of despair and sorrow - the waning moon
  • Asteris the Betrayer, goddess of betrayal and deceit - the dark moon
Asteris the Warrior was the wife of Arpan. Their children were the stars, who formed the armies that Arpan led in the endless wars between Helim and Ghuul. Seeing so many of her children killed in these endless wars drove Asteris into despair, and in the end she betrayed Helim into the hands of Ghuul, causing the great darkness. Repenting of her actions, she was reborn in the darkness as the Maiden again, bringing some light back to the darkness of the world. She once again became the Warrior when she atoned for her crimes by fighting alongside Arpan to defeat Ghuul and drive him into the underworld, releasing Helim to shine on the world once again. Her final child with Arpan was The Morninglord, who acted as Helim's herald when he returned to the upper world once again.   Because of Helim's defeat by Ghuul, the sun can only shine for part of each day, and as a result, Asteris is also condemned to eternally repeat her cycle of betrayal and repentance.
