Silvéturre

General introduction

The Silvéturre is a small partly agrarian, partly military colonial camp north of the Sévo Mountains. It was founded during the Tarrabaenians during the rule of Baius Válés Aemiliánus and his Tarrabaenian Empire. During that time the Tarrabaenians expanded their rule across the Sévo Mountains and occupied the three existing petty kingdoms there. While their stay was mostly not permanent, the outpost of Silvéturre stood strong and remains to this day, also due to a unique organisational model.

History

Silvéturre means 'watch tower at the forest', which alludes to its position close to the Skaura Hrís. It was founded 3132 or 3133 EE as a military camp to secure the area and to establish a good vantage point for further exploration or conquest of the lands to the North. While the local petty kingdoms were at first easy to topple, the local population did not approve of Tarrabaenian rule and constantly revolted or terrorised the Tarrabaenian soldiers with guerilla tactics. In addition the Skaura Orohlen to the North assisted the resistance fighters, as they were worried about a strong Tarrabaenian presence so close to their homelands.

This brought about a change in Tarrabaenian tactics, as the North proved too difficult to control in traditional ways. Instead retired soldiers were promised land as payment for their military service as an alternative to monetary compensation. They were settled at Silvéturre, guaranteeing the presence of loyal and well defending Tarrabaenians in the area as well as people interested in safeguarding their property. While Tarrabaenia lost control of the North soon after, Silvéturre stood strong and continues to be Tarrabaenias outpost there. When Tarrabaenian expansion ended, the attacks from the locals also ceased, ensuring the settlements permanence.

Current role

Silvétorre today is a place of only minor importance to the Tarrabaenians. With the destruction of the local petty kingdoms, no new centralised power has risen in the area. The local people live peacefully in smaller villages and towns and are not interested in drawing the Tarrabaenians attention towards them in fear of new and bigger armies coming in from the South. The Skaura Orohlen are also content with the stipe of land between the Sévo Mountains and the Skaura Hrís being some kind of buffer between them and the Tarrabaenians.

The people of Silvéturre are seen as somewhat wacky yokels, cheerful but unsophisticated. On the other hand, Silvéturre has attracted adventurers and creatives, who established something like an artist's colony. Indeed these people are most influential in keeping the ties to the Tarrabaenian heartland strong as well as interacting with the local people or the Skaura Orohlen. The locals even take advantage of these so to say tourists by selling them goods or housing them. Things like 'favólla' (bean pots), a special form of pottery and a literary genre known as 'lássívié meandi súré' (wanderlust miscella) have developped from there new habits. Not having military-related second thoughts, neither the locals nor the Skaura Orohlen feel threatened by these wanderers.
