Session 017: Report

General Summary

The dust and debris scattered by your explosive entrance left you blinded as you rushed into the chamber, intent on stopping Prince Breccan. Upon sighting you, the leader of the masked cultists ushered his brethren to act with haste, causing them to frantically chant as they prepared to shed their own blood.   The prize you sought, the hammer of the dwarves floated above their congregation, bound to the cultists by magical tethers. The robed figure you had encountered earlier shielded the ritual with a magical barrier, before slinking back into the shadows of the colonnade above you.   Brince Breccan made their stand on the other side of the river of magma. He and his faithful guard were aided by a pack of shadow creatures controlled by the man in the silver mask. However, thanks to the agreement you had made with Nine-Claws, you now outnumbered your foes.   The battle commenced, and though Vethykos was immediately overpowered by the shadow creatures, Talvikki's magic managed to bring him to safety from their grasp.   As the first of the cultists slit open his belly, his spirit was pulled out of his body to join the hammer floating above the metallic statue. You were unsure how much time you had, but felt a sense great of urgency.   Filled with newfound determination, you struck against your enemies. Below, Theodore and his gnoll friend fought hard against the foes standing in front of Prince Breccan and the altar, while the rest of you struck against the wizard, hoping to spoil his focus and bring down the barrier.   With a swift plunge of a dagger, another of the cultist flock slew himself, and he likewise joined the ghostly dance above the shimmering construct.   The wizard's focus was eventually ruined by the combined assault of your party, and as he collapsed against the stone column, the barrier was finally brought down. Without wasting a moment, Talvikki took out his ring and unleashed its magic against the angelic statue. Green lightning struck forth from his hand and struck its metallic form, completely disintegrating its form into a cloud of billowing dust.   With the statue gone, the ritual came to an abrupt end. Having lost all of his allies in the fight, Breccan fled from the chamber. As End and Vethykos chased, Theodore secured the hammer you had all risked so much for. The dismayed faithful of The Guardian were left in shock, and made for easy captives.   The prince's flight was cut short, as his attempt to scale the wall at the back of the complex was ruined by End's bag of tricks. The shadar-kai was overcome by a coughing fit, lost his grasp on the brick wall and fell to his death in the lake of magma.   With the ritual stopped and your prize in hand, all that remained was to settle your deal with The Ragged Hand.
