Session 011: Report

General Summary

At the end of Stonewell's old mine, you found a small entryway punctured into the stone of the tunnel. You found yourself in a low hallway of dwarven make, dark and abandoned. You found the corpse of a dwarven prospector, his body crushed and beetle-infested.   In the room beyond the hallway, you found an altar with a stone idol and some magical tomes. Carved onto the chamber floor was a large, mysterious circle adorned with runes and inscriptions. Old skeletal remains were scattered around the room.   As you ventured further, you found yourself in a large bedroom, lovingly decorated with stone and wood carvings, plush toys and metal sculptures depicting sniffers, the furless creatures often employed by dwarves underground. You found a sturdy safe hidden in a corner of the bedroom, and after cracking its combination lock you found a magical jug hidden within.   Shallow grooves had been worn into the floor of these halls, as if they had endured decades of heavy traffic. You found another corpse in the dining room, a hardy-looking woman in miner's overalls. A round, gaping hole was punched into her her chest, collapsing her ribcage and leaving her dead in a pool of her own blood.   Soon after finding the miner, you began to hear a loud rhythmical sound of impacting metal, which resonated through the empty hallways. Like a heavy hammer striking a large bell, ominous and foreboding. You entered the central hallway, and decided to explore away from the sound.   You wandered further, and found yourselves in an armory and barracks. You looted some weapons which you found around the rooms, and found the third prospector, an oily-black tiefling carrying an alchemist's tools.   A tunnel led you onto a platform with battlements, which overlooked the massive cave system ahead. The ceiling and the floor of the cave were beyond your sight, and the only source of light was a dim, orange glow behind a rocky outcrop, somewhere miles away. You could smell cooked food emanating from below, and after peeking around the ledge, saw lights in the windows, several stories below.   As you were exploring the battlements, one of you was caught in the sticky filament of some massive, spider-like cave creature. The monster tried to reel you in towards the ceiling, but was ultimately unsuccessful. After being peppered by your arrows, it tried to escape, but you shot it down with a ballista in one of the towers.   You were left shaken but unharmed by the encounter. However, as you entered back into the armory, you were made aware of the fact that the loud hammering noise had stopped. As you took positions to hide, you heard heavy footsteps down the hallway.   With a cleverly placed minor illusion, you managed to lure the creature into a better position, and prepared yourselves to ambush whatever lurked in the room beyond...
