Cult of Justice

The Cult of Justice is one of the Cults of the Holy Sanctorum - but differs from almost every other Cult in the Sanctorum. Unlike most Cults, the faithful cannot choose to become a Devotee (the lowest rank of Cult involvement) of Justice. This was decided in the decree setting up the Cult - another difference, most Cults arose naturally and were recognised later - in 671 AC. This also makes it the newest Cult, founded after a gap of more than 60 years.   These peculiarities arise from the purpose of the Cult - to serve The Grand Sanctorum (and thus the Holy Sanctorum) itself. While the Cult of Arms serves militarily, the Cult of Justice does so administratively and (as the name suggests) judicially. Almost every aspect of the Sanctorum is now administered by the Cult of Justice and those traditionalists who resent this innovation (called 'Simplifiers' in their most extreme sects) might say that the Cult of Justice now is the Sanctorum.   Conscious of the unique role of the Cult, measures were taken from the start to ensure impartiality and total dedication to the Sanctorum as a whole, rather than any partisan interests. Though initially recruited (by necessity) from members of other Cults, within 5 years it was formalised that anyone joining the Cult as an Acolyte may not have any other formal roles in Cults - contrary to the normal rules on free membership. Furthermore, those joining the Cult gave up their own personal rights, and were restricted to even showing a devotion to a maximum of 3 Cults - with each having to be approved of by a Superior.     These unprecedented restrictions were themselves fashioned into the spirit of the Cult - ascetic faithful giving up their freedom and rights in the greater service of the Creator. However true that is, it is also true that the Acolytes and Sanctors of the Cult of Justice gain access to much power, prestige, and influence for all the give up.

Structure

The Cult is organisation is highly specified by the Grand Sanctorum itself, to ensure the members give the best possible service to the rest of the Sanctorum. The Cult is split into two branches, the Judicial and the Administrative. While the Judicial branch more clearly fulfils the notions of 'justice,' the Administrative branch has developed its own spirituality which focuses on their role in delivering 'justice' by ensuring the correct decisions are made, and the will of the Creator flows through every aspect of the Sanctorum.   The Judicial Branch comprises:
  • The Grand Tribunal; this is not an independent court unlike the other tribunals, this is the legal team that would support the Grand Sanctorum Council if they sat in judgement of an extremely serious case of heresy, a severe breach of magical & spiritual law, a sovereign ruler, or one of their own members (or another senior Sanctorum official)
  • The State Tribunals; each recognised sovereign
