Winston Hardluck
Overview
Tall for a halfling, Winston, also known as Honest Win, arrived in Saltmarsh six years ago, seemingly an utter unknown and outsider. With the deep regional knowledge and mannerisms of a local, he was quickly accepted by his fellow Salts.
Winston will tell you himself that he considers himself a true and native Salt, just not from where.
Personality
What little he will tell, is that he's closed the door on a past full of hardship, pain, and regret as a solo adventurer. Hardluck wants to move on and enjoy his retirement.
Despite a rugged demeanor from a difficult life, Winston is friendly, sharp eyed, and impertinently playful. Honest Win is much like an overly familiar relative to everyone he meets.
Beliefs
The increased presence of Founders in Saltmarsh has him on edge, and he is concerned that greater taxation, not to mention trouble, will soon emerge. In the meantime, he does business with sailors, adventurers, and those who need "solid goods at honest prices", as he often says.
Endeavors
As for his background in outfitting, there is no question that Winston is an expert. Having funded and opened Honest Winston's Outfitters with a small fortune acquired in the Hool Marshes, there are few better in town that understand expeditions or wilderness survival. And even fewer with the applied experience to back it up.
On top of his firsthand advice, Winston has some of the only maps of the surrounding wilderness, so those who intend to explore these areas often consult with him for guidance. At an honest price, of course.
