Thora Trestari

You cannot break me.
Thora Trestari is a Union Detective working undercover within the Yawen Kingdom. She is often regarded as a genius, especially when it comes to the use of Connection. By her early 20s, she managed to earn both the Imperial Detective title from the The Federation of Independent Realms, and Realm Guardian rank from the Yawen Kingdom. This marks her among some of the youngest to have ever held either title.

Early LIfe

Thora grew up without ever meeting her parents, instead suffering under the supposed care of the Trestari Family Head. As was common for her Clan, she was raised to become a living weapon for The Union, which is something that seeminly only required a short amount of time.   By the age of 12, she was seen living on her own in government issued housing, apparently meeting or surpassing the requirements set by the Family Head. The ordeals that she was forced to undergo, however, left their mark by leaving her mute. It is unknown if her mutism is due to a physical or mental injury.   It was during her time in government housing that she experiemented and developed most of her Grafts. Her unprecedented number of Grafts and the fact that she developed them on her own without an Ink Master earned her a fully covered enrollment at The Lo Marr International Institute at the age of 16. However she dropped out after two years when she was recruited into The Union Security Administration's Division of Intelligence.

Appearance

As a testament to what she went through growing up, Thora sports a well built and muscular frame, especially for one with Sylvid ancestry, as neither of her two parent species are known for being muscular. She inhereted many of the visual quirks of her first mother's Hriva species; namely her snowy-white skin, silvery hair, and large golden eyes. Her other mother, a Witch, passed along one of her blue eyes (giving her heterochromia) and accompanying eye Graft, and the Graft that covers much of her right lower arm.

Abilities

Like most in The Union, Thora makes heavy use Grafts to exploit her inherent Connection. However, her anamolous Capacity allows for her to greatly exceed the number of Grafts that she can use. Some attribute her monstrously high Capacity to the training she did growing up, while others write it off as merely being a side effect to being a Witch hybrid.

Connection Skills

Thora is a master at the fundamental Connection skills. It has been said that she can effortlessly expand her Connection to a network of thousands of people, giving her a very perceptive spatial awareness, and greatly enhancing her detective work. She also seems to excel at Connection Rejection, making it difficult for would-be criminals to hit her with any of their own supernatural abilities.

Connection Art

As a World Level Bearer, Thora has elevated her already great Connection abilities to the next level. In terms of her fundamental Connection abilities, she has exhibited the ability known as Connection Transference which allows her to share or move an existing Connection without breaking it. She often uses this in her work to string up criminals by Connecting various limbs to different parts of a room, immobilizing them. She also uses this to extend the Connection of her Grafts, and thus circumventing the main limitation of her touch-based abilities.

List of Grafts

  • The Union Spirals on her left arm.
  • These are not a true Graft, but instead a more mutable version known as a Crest. They are part of a common tradition within The Union to mark the marriage between individuals. The Crest appears (for Thora and her wives) as a triple helix where each strand represents each person in the marriage. The strand representing Thora is silver in color and glows a deep teal when activated. The strand representing Saiya Delravar is also silver in color, but glows red when activated. The third strand represents Noèl Samja and is bright red in color and seems to smolder and give a more fiery glow when activated. Should anyone represented by the Crest break their vows, their strand will begin to deteriorate. If they should pass, their strand will fade to a lifeless grey. This last part is what allowed Saiya and Noèl to maintain hope in finding Thora after she disappeared when she fell off the Edge of the World into The Abyss. Thora has been said to activate Noèl's strand in order to warm herself up.
  • Circular Graft on left (blue eye) iris and darkened sclera.
  • This is often called her Witch's Eye, as it was one of the gifts she inherited from her second mother, who was a witch. However, Thora prefers to call it by its function, or the Graft of Insight. When activated, it both allows Thora to make sense of high speed visual input and the abilitity to visualize anything she Connects to.
  • A mostly solid blue and dark teal Graft that covers her right arm from mid-forearm to finger tips with flecks of white and turquoise that drift around the Graft.
  • This is often called her Hand of the Witch, and is the other gift she inherited from her Witch mother. Due to it granting several abilities, Thora has not offered an alternate name that aligns with the more standard Union naming conventions, though she has considered referring to it as the Graft of Space due to that being the primary Attunement it affords her. The only ability that she commonly uses from it is Folding, which is the act of folding space around an object in order to more easily move or carry it. She uses this Folding to store her sidearm, a double-edged short sword. This usually seems to appear as a white outline of the sword somewhere within the Graft, usually over wrist on the outside of her arm.
  • A vertical arrangement of three triangles under her right eye.
  • The Graft of many names. Many recognize it as the mark of the Trestari family, as many within the family are born with a variation of the Graft, and those that don't usually receive a Crest version instead. It has also been known as the Graft of Descent, Crushing, or Gravitation based on its general function seen among members of the Trestari family. Though Thora's is naturally rather potent and is thus most often referred to as the Graft of Gravitation. Without her Connection Transference abilities and Witch's Eye, it is her only long ranged Graft and is enherently linked to her Sight based Connection. Normally, anything she views with her right eye she can cause to move down relative to her perspective. She often uses it to pin people in place while working.
  • A series of nested chevrons on the lateral side of each of her shoulders.
  • These are the Grafts of Acceleration. Thora developed these to give her body the physical reaction speed necessary to keep up with her Witch's Eye.
  • Five small circles: two above each eyebrow and one between her eyebrows.
  • These are the Grafts of Focus. Thora developed these to allow her to better make use of the sensory information she gets from the Witch's Eye. Each one represents a fully realized parallel consciousness that she can use to process data, listen to multiple conversations, etc. Each one can run independently or share information with the others. Thora claims each was able to process information thousands of times faster than normal before she elevated her Connection to the World Level. She has yet to determine their new limits of data processing.
  • An open circle with a triangle with truncated corners inside it on the palm of her left hand. Two of the corners are roughly aligned with her thumb and middle finger.
  • Thora calls this the Graft of Repulsion and claims it's one of her stronger grafts. When active, anything it makes contact with is sent flying. Using Transference, Thora is able to fly using this Graft.
  • A double-lined circle on the outside of her left hand, opposite her Graft of Rejection.
  • This is called the Graft of Attraction, or Anchoring, depending on how Thora is using it. It functions largely in inverse to her Graft of Rejection. Thora has used it to cling to surfaces, hold broken objects together, hold onto someone, and via Transference, she has managed to redirect physical force when combined with her Graft of Rejection.
  • A very complex series of interconnected lines and circles contained in a primary circle on her upper back.
  • Thora refers to it as the Graft of Directions. Its primary function appears to give a massive boost to her physical agility and dexterity. Its development vastly improved her flying ability, making it less of a novelty and more of an ability she could actually use.
  • A series of solid bands, ten in total. Two around each upper bicep, and three around the middle of each thigh.
  • These are her Grafts of Strength and can be activated independently to augment her physical strength. The two on her right arm she developed while growing up, the two on her left arm while she was attending Lo Marr, and the remaining she developed on the job while working as a detective.
  • An extremely dense coil that wraps around every bone in her body.
  • She received these when her resolve and Connection to survival was recognized by the World, when she fell into the Abyss, and awarded her the Title of Unbreakable. They seem to make her bones incapable of breaking and the effect seems to extend slightly to surrounding tissue, making her near immune to bludgeoning or other physical trauma (though cutting and piercing attacks have precedent for overcoming this protection). She calls these Grafts of Reinforcement. They seem to activate on their own, regardless of Thora's intent and cause her to glow slightly with more impactful activations causing more intense glowing. If she tries to Transfer this Connection to someone without being a World Level Bearer, she has to maintain physical contact with them otherwise it rapidly dissipates. If they are elevated enough, they only need to remain in her Connection range to benefit from the ability.
  • A line that runs from her lower lip to a filled-in circle at the top of her sternum.
  • Once she became more adept at using her flight abilities, Thora developed this, the Graft of Breath, in order to augment her breathing capabilities. It both makes breathing at higher altitudes easier, simply strengthens her lungs allowing her to hold her breath for extended periods of time.
  • A series of 16 rounded chevrons arranged uniformly around a circle centered on her navel.
  • She calls this the Graft of Life. She can use it to exchange stamina for increased regeneration abilities.

Physical Abilities

Thora is a capable martial artist, using a largely improvised form that developed out of using her Grafts while fighting. She makes use of a lot of uncanny movements that are hard to predict, almost as if she were a pupit or caught in a spider web, which is part of why she's known as The Spider. She makes use of a lot of palm strikes when fighting as that is the way she's most used to using her Graft of Rejection. She also makes heavy use of her Connection Transferrence to make physical Connection with a target and then, as she puts it, throw the Connection to where she wants it. She has also been witnessed making devestating axe kicks by making a large connection between her heel and the ground beneath her target.
