Aurora

The kingdom of Aurora is the mightiest and most prosperous of the three nations, having risen up from the first settlement of the western explorers. It is the birthplace of Princess Avalon, and it is soon to be the setting of the most dangerous political game in Sala's history.

Structure

The kingdom is a monarchy, headed by an all powerful king or queen. The monarch sets the laws and directs a council of lords and advisers. Lords on the State Council (also known as the Low Council) may govern individual states according to the monarch's laws, and lords on the National Council (also known as the High Council) may control departments such as the treasury or military at the monarch's approval and direction. A High Lord technically has a higher position than a Low Lord, but High Lords do not technically have authority over Low Lords. Also, while the monarch may be officially and legally all powerful, dissent among the lords or people may result in the loss of the throne.

Assets

Aurora is the largest nation in terms of population, habitable land, and resources, and it has the most diverse range of climates and terrain. This means that it has access to a wealth of natural resources, including fish, lumber, and ores, and it is capable of producing a wide range of agricultural products. It is also the most advanced and diverse of all the nations, meaning that it has a large and efficient population of craftsmen. Its rivers and plains allow for easy transportation and trade of these resources both within the kingdom and with the other two nations. It has a large and well-trained army as well.

History

(A/N: expand upon this) Western explorers came across the shores of what would later be Aurora by accident. They established their own nation, driving most of the magical beings east and the human natives farther north and south. Settlers continued to move east, and tensions arose between the western settlers and the eastern settlers. After some fighting, the eastern settlers split from Aurora to form Caligo. Throughout the following history, there were many wars and conflicts between the three main nations. Aurora and Caligo are often seen as the instigators of these conflicts due to their tendency to push their borders and beliefs onto others. Presently, there is a tentative peace in the interest of trade and self-preservation.

Demography and Population

Aurora has the largest population of the three nations. The majority of the population is concentrated along the coast and the Crystal River. The population becomes thinner closer to the borders and in the very center of the plains. The capital of Mirour is the most populous city, followed by Lere, Aran's Blessing, and Etgrove.

Territories

Aurora's territory encompasses the area between the East Aran Sea, the White Mountains, the Crimson River, and the Drakecrag Range. This land originally belonged to the native humans and magical beings, but the Settlers killed and drove them out during their colonization of Sala.

Military

The monarch officially heads the military, but the High Lord of the military (the General) makes most of the decisions with the monarch's approval. The military has a fairly typical hierarchy: general, commander, captain, sergeant, soldier. There are special branches, such as the cavalry and the special forces. The Guard is officially a branch of the military, but as its purpose is to protect the monarch, it never engages in war unless the monarch is fighting.

Religion

While Trinitarianism is the official state religion, religion does not play a role in Aurora's government, nor are any other religions outlawed. However, people that openly practice other religions are often shunned and discriminated against by the general population. Those that practice magic or witchcraft especially are met with fear and hostility. The only churches and religious festivals that exist in the public eye are those aligned with Trinitarianism. With that being said, many in Aurora hold the view that religion is something to be practiced privately, and with some exceptions, there is little discussion of it outside the home.

Agriculture & Industry

Aurora is largely agricultural, producing large amounts of grains, cotton, and animal products yearly. While most of its resources are devoted to agricultural production, some of its cities are engaged in mining, forestry, or fishing. Aurora has the largest and most specialized population of craftsmen as well.

Trade & Transport

Aurora exports agricultural products and crafts, and it imports ore and lumber that it cannot otherwise acquire. The Crystal River and the western coast allow for small ships to transport goods within the kingdom. Horses, wagons, and caravans allow for the often difficult journey into the other nations.
