Aleena

The Verdant

Aleena Sowesyn (a.k.a. Saendu Lende)

"Count yourself lucky! Most humans your age don't get to play 'House' anymore!"
The current form of the once infamous forest dragon known as Saendu Lende, the Verdant Sin Sower. Formerly a wrathful monster living in the Falnear Thicket, she was killed for her murderous, territorial behavior, after which her rage manifested her soul as a tiny fairy after refusing to pass on peacefully. Taking advantage of her new chance at life, she began to torment the humans that ventured into her forest with morbid glee, "pranking" them with mutating body horror jokes or fates worse than death that would only be fixed when she felt like it.   A mischievous prankster with little to no understanding of human morality, she is best approached with caution and a revered sense of respect lest one wishes to find their arm replaced by a breeding ground for worms and bees.   After her defeat at the hands of Arturo Hidalgo, the Charred Knight, she took up the name "Aleena Sowesyn" and now travels the world with him under the promise of a contract: if he can't show her that humanity isn't all that bad, his soul will be her's for the taking, and she will resume her life of toying with humanity as she sees fit.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Lithe, nimble, and can fly as quickly as a hummingbird.

Body Features

A light-red glyph vaguely resembling a heart wrapped in vines and wings is tattooed on her back. When casting more powerful spells, it will emit a soft glowing effect until the spell is completed.

Facial Features

Bright, flowery eyes, like an orchid's petals.

Identifying Characteristics

Pink and cream-colored wings resembling that of a butterfly's are completely detached from her body, floating behind her at all times when in fairy form. Despite their looks, they are indeed a part of her body, and attempting to hold her by them will lift her up like a crane game carrying your new favorite stuffed toy. In a similar vein, attempting to tear them off would cause her to feel pain.

Special abilities

Though she was always a powerful monster, becoming a fairy has given her abilities beyond what she had as a dragon.
  • The Endless Falnear: A form of arcane magic that gives her control over forest life and vegetation. Acting as territory control, she can rapidly conjure plants across whatever area she is able to "claim" as part of the Falnear Thicket. This allows her to control said plant life as she pleases, coiling vines around intruders or forcing sharp roots to shoot out from the earth (though this ability is less effective/more temporary if the surrounding environment is too hostile for a forest to grow). Her control also extends to people, though given that souls are capable of protecting their vessels against magic such as this, it takes effort on her part to "claim" them as her own. Should she successfully take control of someone's body, Aleena can morph them into grotesque, mutated mockeries of life as they become one with the forest, usually unable to die until she gets bored.
  • Spectral Projection: Aleena is capable of reforming her former dragon body as a massive ghost, with her body visible within the center of its translucent chest. It isn't just for scaring people either; the specter is essentially a protective exoskeleton for her, another medium to release destructive power amongst her enemies.
  • Dragon Blood: Though she is no longer a physical dragon, she seems to have kept her old body's blood, or at least its traits. This means she has a quick healing factor and can use it to help others in a pinch, but any metal made with dragonsbane will weaken her greatly.

Apparel & Accessories

Though she possesses and is capable of conjuring more than enough outfits for everyday use, her favorite one consists of a green, navel-exposing dress trimmed with gold accents and symbols resembling a sun. She combines this with green gloves and kneesocks with a white bellflower ribbon tied around the ends. When adventuring in a human-sized form, she is often seen in a long, white coat with one sleeve and some simple leather armor over a pink shirt.   Almost all of her outfits, however, have her sport a hairpin designed after a daisy with a leaf next to it.

Specialized Equipment

Though she normally prefers to use magic for everything, Aleena is still willing to use whatever she found lying around or was gifted.
  • Beam Catalyst: A multi-purpose tool normally given to covert operatives from the Mistlands. Activated simply by feeding it with a minuscule amount of the wielder's mana, it is capable of producing a forcefield-contained energy beam that can be shaped to their liking. Whether it's a beam sword, a hammer, or even a mundane image projector, the catalyst is a useful, easy-to-conceal tool fit for any spy. Its main purpose, however, is to act as a spell focus, amplifying magic for a minimal mana cost (E.g. Casting a flurry of fire bolts for the cost of one).

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Originally a wrathful beast that sought to destroy all foreign life that stepped onto her lands, she was eventually put down by a squad of mercenaries hired by the Nokodurn Order after her reign of terror became far too dangerous to simply sidestep away from. Enraged up to her last breath, however, Saendu's soul refused to pass on, her raw power and hatred binding her to the mortal plane, where she would manifest as a fairy. Though a downgrade in terms of sheer intimidation, the fact that she had become a being of pure magic allowed her to continue her path of vengeance, expanding her forest home unabated... at least until one fateful day.   Arturo Hidalgo, a knight clad in charred steel, came to her forest to challenge her.  Though her cunning and trickery proved to be more than a match for the young knight, she was still outsmarted at every turn in the end, leading to yet another defeat, this time at the hands of one man.  Though instead of bringing down his blade on her once and for all, Arturo surprised Aleena with the offer of a pact: she would become his familiar, or at least something akin to one if such a term would wound her pride, and they would travel across the land to see the world.  If she were to take his hand, Arturo swore to show Aleena that humanity isn't all that bad, and even if man did indeed end her life once, they can shine a new light upon her second one.   Begrudgingly, she accepted on one condition: if he failed to convince her that humanity was anything more than unmulched plant food, she would take and enslave his soul to use as she wished.     With the contract sealed between the Charred Knight and the mischievous dragon fairy, they set off to see the world, helping one person at a time.

Failures & Embarrassments

Pompous as she can be, she is very ashamed of the fact that a bunch of mercenaries were the ones to finally do her in.  Reminding Aleena of her death is a surefire way to dent her cheeky attitude as she slings excuse after excuse on how she totally could have slaughtered everyone if they didn't do this or that.

Morality & Philosophy

Fittingly for the creature she became after death, Aleena is a self-serving hedonist that either lacks or is unwilling to gain an understanding of human morality. Anything she does is entirely based on what would amuse her at the moment, the well-being of others be damned. To Aleena, it doesn't matter if she sentenced an intruding adventurer to a fate worse than death, she can just fix them up later when she gets bored! If she ever does get bored, at least.
"My soul was torn asunder and transformed into whatever object suited her fancy. A tree, a statue, a fungus-ridden grass patch, you name it. I felt every bird that nested upon my branches, every insect that burrowed into me, every adventurer that swiped his blade against me for fun, I was conscious for everything. At one point, she got into a fight where her tail accidentally shattered me as a statue and she forgot where I was for two years, leaving me to wallow in endless pain until she remembered I existed and proceeded to fix me so she still had a nearby 'doll' to mess with. And then she forgot again! And then--"   -A rescued adventurer from a "pile of wooden dolls" in the Falnear Thicket. The man proceeded to ramble for another seven minutes.
As of late, however, she seems to care more about others' well-being. Considerate, even. Perhaps spending so much time around people has taught her a few things...

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Aleena desires nothing more than to increase the borders of her home forest and turn anyone she doesn't like into either her plaything, a corpse, or both. Almost everything she does is entirely up to her selfish whims or impulses. She absolutely detests anything that goes against her mood or plans and becomes hostile towards anyone attempting to tell her to at least chill out on turning people into fleshy, hole-covered nightmares. To her, it's simple logic: let her do what she wants or she will make you do it.   As she begins to spend more time around humanity, however, Aleena has become less hostile and more considerate of the people around her. She still wants to spread her homeland across the world, just that she's now limiting it to people that she hates (which has become a much more narrow list!).
