The Rise of the Outlaw Fae [WASC2020] Profession in Sagadorm | World Anvil

The Rise of the Outlaw Fae [WASC2020]

The Faye of saga dorm or those fairies who have magical powers but use them for purposes outside the defined laws of the kingdom for which they reside.   The Faye and the ferry are biologically identical and have the same potential for using magic. The difference between the two categories is definitional on the purposes for which the individual functions. The ferry are loyal to the ferry council or two benevolent efforts of their fellow fairy and humankind. They seek to bring order and peace to the land.   The Faye, on the other hand, use their magic for more selfish ends. While not all of the Faye are maniacally evil. They are not seen as benevolent persons who contribute to society.   Some of the instances of the Faye of note include Falemance of Ileduvant. She was a member of the ferry council who through betrayal of the principles of the followers of the five dragons was removed from her position and banished.   There are Faye found throughout the entire world. Depending upon the motives of the Faye, they may be found as hermits living in secluded woods practicing their arts in hiding. They may be infiltrating society under the pretense of being a fairy but yet for personal or ulterior motives. And even some Faye have built organizations around themselves for their own illicit purposes. This may include the experimentation to enhance magical knowledge for untoward purposes. This could include the sale of magical items that can be used for the detriment of society. These magical items could cause harm to individuals or could be used to torment classes of people, or even cause untraceable death for personal and political assassinations. There have also been magical devices created to make humans appear to have the magical aura of the ferry so that they can infiltrate places they may not normally be able to find. This is been very helpful for thieves and counterfeiters who commit their crimes under the pretense of being a fairy but then rid themselves of the object and then no longer have that glow.   A device of importance discovered by the Faye includes a small container that has been lined with a composite synthetic material made from the ground remains of a blessed creature, particularly the hide of a fire elemental creature. When a device is within this box the magical abilities of that device are nullified as the magic cannot escape outside the synthetic hide that lines the box.   Those Faye that have created their own criminal organization are very difficult to find, in general. They present themselves as high members of society. Often the Faye who try to present themselves and integrate in high society do not reveal their Faye nature. This is a challenge because of the magical semi glowing aura that the fairy and Faye possess. However some have developed magics that turn off the glow so that they can pass as normal humans.   Another form of magical experimentation often conducted by the Faye include the experimentation with the remains of blessed creatures and their yet to be petrified forms. The ferry council has decreed that blessed animals who have been petrified and the use of those remains are allowed for specific purposes. They emphatically state that there is no difference between using reconstituted petrified remains of a blessed creature then using un-petrified remains. The Faye insist that un-petrified remains of a blessed creature contain more potency and thus they will slaughter blessed animals and experiment upon the remains in the very brief window before they become petrified. This process is very difficult to perform because of the rapid petro vacation but also the ability to find blessed animals in the wild and then bring them to locations where the experiments can be performed. As a note, domesticated animals are never blessed and will not be petrified. That is only wild creatures who retain their connection with the spirit of saga dorm.
