The Children of the Chosen {WASC 2021}

To supplement the current stub: Children of the Chosen.   The children of the chosen is a secret organization that began in the days immediately following the great calamity where all fairies lost their magical powers. During that event 16 fairies were chosen to become the guardians of the power and encased within the totems of tray Linea's. These totems held all the power that was removed from the fairies and the chosen were to be there immortal guardians.   The initial members were, literally, the children of the chosen to be encased within. A member of the 16 families formed a new monastic religious order, based on the teachings of the five dragons, and swore to protect the totems and dedicate their lives and their descendents lives to the same order.   Within this order, they did follow a monastic life as best they could. However, to keep the secret of the totems within the organization, marriages and children were encouraged. Only the most pious of the children of the chosen were selected to become members to replace their parents. If a child of sufficient qualifications was not had among the direct the descendent of the current "child" than a near kinsman, such as a cousin or a niece or a nephew, was selected in their place. More often than not, this option was selected when the monk was unable to bear or sire children.   For hundreds of years the children of the chosen maintained the knowledge of Draconum, or the faith of the five dragons. Many of the original children were also members of the scholarly monastic order (the name escapes me it's the one in charge of all the libraries) and they sought to maintain the language and the teachings as pure as possible.   They established a series of hidden lairs and repositories of knowledge. These libraries were maintained by the children of the chosen and allowed for the knowledge to be maintained but also the totems to remain protected.   Their influence throughout the centuries ebbed and flowed with the world situations. While their primary mission was to protect the totems, that was pretty much taken care of because the totems were well hidden. There secondary mission was to ensure the selected preservation of knowledge.   The children of the order became influential as intellectuals, historians, professors, archaeologists, archivists, and any other profession that dealt with ancient information. Alongside their mission to protect the totems, they sought to a race any mention or evidence of the totems in the books or other materials.   Through selective editing, the totems quickly became tales of math and urban legend. Those who believed in the totems and frantically sought to prove their existence were thwarted by misinformation, misdirection, and outright lies. The humorous part of this is that the totem hunters who sought to uncover the truth about the totems were often derided because of their fanciful stories of a global conspiracy theory trying to keep the totems hidden. While laughed at and considered crackpots, this was the only thing that was absolutely true in the totem hunters body of knowledge.
