Millennia have passed since the Judgement of the Divine Brothers wiped the slate clean with humankind. All that is left of what once was is merely remnants. Ruins and myths are all that persist. As are the two opposing forces that once strived for a common endgame. A Great Darkness through the Corruption of Nature, against the Blinding Light of the Greatness of Civilization. Pawns are constantly moved about. Attacks and counterattacks. Sacrifices and victories. Once upon a time, these actions left great impacts on the lands of man, but these days it has evolved into more of a war of attrition. A cold war that only rarely is enveloped by crimson flames and poisonus smoke. The eternal battle, however, is one that takes all the spotlight. The seemingly endless hordes of Grimm against the limited numbers of Hunters and Huntresses. For the first time since before the Great Conflict a hundred years ago the protectors of humankind finally have most of their numbers replenished. But the forces of Grimm have increased in numbers as well. And again, as has happened time and time again, the two who once watched the world burn move their pawns yet again.
