*Creating a Character

There are files for blank player character and game master sheets which you can find here. They are printable PDF files that you can print out yourself and use in games.   The deciding factor in most of the game play in PoW will be based on ranges which are called Success Ranges. Success Ranges (SR) use the D10 for the ones spot and the percentile dice for the tens. Treat the 0 and 00 on these dice as zeros. Rolls that are outside of the Success Range are considered failures.

Success Ranges, by Difficulty

10-90: Little to no difficulty
20-80: Moderate
30-70: Hard
40-60: Dangerous
These are suggestions and a guideline on how to properly make SRs. As the Game Master you can come up with your own ranges.

Luck Rolls

If a roll results in a 99 then it is considered a Luck Roll and the roller must roll again. However Luck Rolls allow the roller to add their Luck CPP to one of three things:
  1. The roller adds it to the next roll, giving them a better chance at success.
  2. The roller adds it to the next roll's outcome for added damage or effect.
  3. The roller adds 1 point to their Luck CPP.

Misfortune Rolls

If a roll results in a 0 then it is considered a Misfortune Roll. A couple of effects happen:
  1. The Game Master decides on a Misfortune.
  2. The roller does not roll again.
  3. The roller loses 1 point of their Luck CPP.

Specialty and Focus

It is recommended that you decide on a Specialty first to determine what statistics are important to your character.

Rolling Control Points Pools (CPPs)

There are a number of scores that define your character called Statistics which will affect your rolls, how much damage you are able to deal, and how much you can take before you are Impaired.   Control Points Pools are the base scores of a character's statistics that function like a buffer. For example: If a character has a Knowledge CPP of 10 and the SR is 40-70. They roll a 36. With the Knowledge CPP of 10, it is possible to make that 46 instead and succeed the roll. Also it is possible to remove from a roll as well. Instead of a 36 they rolled a 78. It is possible to make that into 68 and succeed the roll.   To determine your Control Points Pools at level 1 roll a D12 and a D8. Do this seven times, remove the lowest, and then assign the scores to the six pools: Vitality, Might, Adaptability, Knowledge, Luck, and Presence. Now it is time for your Health Pool.

Health Pool (HP)

Your health is important as it will keep you alive and fighting.   The base score for your Health Pool at level 1 is Vitality + Luck.   For each level you add your Vitality to your maximum health. So for example a level 3 character with a 8 Vitality and 9 Luck will have 33 HP (17 for level 1, 25 for level 2, 33 for level 3).

Hit Range (HR)

Your Hit Range is the range that an enemy must roll within to be able to hit you, and vice versa. To determine your HR you must add your Adaptability, Luck, and Armor. This will be your HR's low end. Subtract that number from 100. This will be your high end.

Weapons

Your character starts off with 2 weapons of your choice.

Inventory

Your inventory and treasures starting off will be dependent on what Specialty and Focus you choose.

Arcane Knowledge

If you choose to become a Arcane User you will learn to control your Arcane power through Arcane Knowledge. This can be achieved through multiple methods from Arcane infused objects that you discover, spells you learn from tomes or mentors, or extracting the Arcane from other beings.
