Personal history

Son of the previous Al-Thane Kavan Banfryst, Brejan was schooled in strategy, wartime combat, law, religious lore, commerce, politics and power from a young age, along with brothers Thajan and Rothan. When the three of them contracted slag fever, Brejan was the only brother to survive, after his mother, in desperation, threw him into the snowfields in an attempt to dull the fever. He was given the name Snowcloak, by the worried servants and his grateful parents, a name he has held onto in the years that followed, as a reminder of what might have been.   When his father passed away, he and the braigh-thanes consigned the body to the frost, dragging it into the blizzards and white wilds of the distant north. The act united the braigh-thanes and the Al-Thane, resulting in a dynasty of surprising harmony between the families at court, even if the families in the field continued to rival one another at every opportunity.   Married for love to an heiress of one of the country's lost braighs, Maira Lyall, Brejan became the father to two daughters and two sons before his wife passed away after a struggle with snow fever. Snowcloak's family remedy did not help, but instead proved Maira's bane.   With his daughters, Ajona and Caraihe married to braigh-thanes in the east, Brejan's sons, trained for battle and governance like their father, struggled to find satisfactory pursuits. The younger, Blaine, set out to resettle Braigh Lyall, while the elder, Bothain, remained to learn the politics of court, aspiring to lead a force into battle against the giants.   Now in the twilight years of his life, Brejan has sent Bothain into the southern isles to act as a diplomat with the griffin-riders there, intending to bring them into Althanas

Social

Family Ties

Family ties to Clan Lyall (widowed), and through his children, Ajona ties him to Braigh Wrythe and Caraihe to Braigh Iomair, Blaine's reconstruction has the Braigh Lyall indebted to him. Bothain is attempting to open a connection to the strange peoples of the islands, a political move that could bring great gain in the long term at the cost of the discontent of the western Braigh in the short term.

Religious Views

Nordathair and Sormathair, the Father of the North and the Mother of the South, represent the local pantheon, and Brejan honours them. While he is personally unsure of his faith in these figures, many people that look to him for guidance do, so in order to keep faith with them, he keeps faith with the two Divine.

Hobbies & Pets

Brejan raises northern hawk owls in his free time, training them as messengers for use within the city of Njorfalth. His favourites are a mated pair, both particularly voracious hunters of rats, mice and small birds that he fears carry disease - the female, Valla, is black and white with chestnut eyes, and the male, Surin, is white brindled copper with pale yellow eyes.

Wealth & Financial state

With access to resources unrivalled by anyone in Althanas, Brejan has a purse the size of his country, with most of the resources going to the borders, braighs and infantry. Some resources have been sent regularly to Braigh Lyall to support Blain Banfryst's efforts to rebuild the fortress.
