Shockspine Marsh

In the low hills below the Crindlebib mountains lies a most spectacular swamp.  Explorers have found this marsh to be both beautiful and terrifying depending on when you enter it.  During the day the moss-covered trees with their drooping willow branches create a murky atmosphere that smells of earth and decay.  Most of the creatures, except the more aggressive predators, are tucked away in nests and burrows until sunset.  After dark the marsh comes to life, its many smaller herbivores and insects flood the area.  Hunting and gathering for the coming day.  Plants that seemed meek or unassuming splay their leaves and blossoms, sickly sweet nectar coating them for pollination and to capture the night's meal.   Snarklebloom is a small flower that grows the marsh trees, close to the trunk in the crooks of the low branches.  Their blue petals are mottled with black spirals and their nectar is particularly enticing insects and small mammals alike.  In full bloom the flower overproduces its nectar, as it falls from the pedals, it briefly flares.  A chemical reaction with the air causes it to produce a small electric discharge.  Witnessing this is startling and wondrous.  The trees seem to be showering sparks upon the marsh floor illuminating the night.  This nectar also has a few interesting applications in gnomish contraptions.   Flooding levels vary by season.  During the wetter months, the marsh is teeming with aquatic life luring many to fish its outer perimeter.  Quartz Bass are sought after for their sparkling skin, tart meat, and precious glands used in several medicinal remedies.  Even in the dryer months, water levels rarely drop below ankle deep.   Many denizens of the Shockspine Marsh exhibit elemental attunement to the sphere of air.  Defensive shock attacks to dancing illuminated skin are not uncommon.  Taser wasps are quite freighting due to the crackling of their tiny wings and the potent numbing sting.  Disturbing a nest is a quick way to be rendered unconscious.     Most of the unique phenomenons within the marsh and its diverse lifeforms can be attributed to its location.   Geographically the core of it sits upon the intersection or nexus of a minor air and water leyline.  This conjunction amplifies and alters the attunement possibilities in wonderful and freakish ways.  There are many mysteries yet to be unraveled within this marvelous marsh.
