Scar Reduction

Ever since the first Alyerian plucked at the Ebb healing was changed forever. Medical knowledge and technology still progressed, but at a much slower pace due to the common use of magical healing.  Elemental healing initially was used predominately by battle medics and made its way to the citizenry as those medics retired from military service.   One clear difference between the traditional methods and those of the Ebb was scar tissue. In traditional medicine and surgeries scarring was due to a few factors, the degree of the injury, the skill of the surgeon (when needed), and the post-care. With healing derived from the Ebb scarring is significantly more common and while the degree of the injury contributes, so to can the use of selected elemental energies. Fire for example is renowned for rapid healing, even for the most savage wounds. This quick return to fitness comes at a price as the wounded area scars deeply and more visibly.   This prompted a dedicated study to determine the best methods for improving healing the resulting scars. Attention was placed on the methods examining how elemental forces healed. Additional focus was applied by some to find a hybrid approach between magical healing and medicinal aftercare. While healing methods improved and scaring lessoned the best that could be determined was that the elemental forces of water healed with the least scarring.   That is until a young half-elven physician trained in the traditional medicinal ways came into the possession of an artifact that allowed him access to elemental healing without practical skill. The device was limited and could not heal severe wounds, but allowed the young curious doctor to explore the Ebbs impacts. With some experimentation, he was able to develop a superior healing method that focused on medicinal applications in conjunction with direct elemental healing. Preparing the wounds with classic treatments allowed the natural systems of the body to keep pace with the accelerated healing of the elemental energies.   His healing knowledge quickly was in high demand. Commoners and nobles alike lined up from across the Middle Kingdoms to receive his care for injuries old and new. True to his upbringing he could not solely enrich himself at the expense of others and started a school to train healers young and old. His contributions to the healing arts are historical and have affected the course of Alyerian history.
