History
The Vandals of Fate started as a rag-tag group of individuals looking to make some coin to leave the town of Cragmire. They first went to explore The Whispering Cairn in the late spring of 795 NE. Here they would meet a ghost of a child named Alaster Land who had wandered into The Whispering Cairn some years prior. He tasked our Ratcatchers into returning his bones to the Land family graveyard as he wished to be buried properly with his family. The Vandals accepted this task which would lead them into discovering a necromancer named Filge had used the bones of the Land family to fuel his necromantic ambitions. The Vandals would track down Filge and defeat him. In doing so they were able to collect the bones. However they also found a strange green worm that no one was able to recognize. They would return to The Whispering Cairn and here they would find themselves entering the True Tomb. The Ratcatcher’s finish their looting of the chamber and find some magical items. However the question of the worm still remained so our Ratcatcher’s decided to visit the smartest man in Cragmire, the wizard Allustan Neff.
After visiting the smartest man, Allustan needs a few days of research so our Ratcatcher’s decide to explore some more ruins, this time an ancient windmill known as The Doomgrinder. Here they find a green Dragon wyrmling named Verdantia. Verdantia declares herself queen and demands the Ratcatchers to bow to her. The Ratcatcher’s manage to slay the beast before returning to Cragmire. When they return to go to speak to Allustan Neff once more who declares the worm is part of a greater plot. These worms can infect someone and turn them into mindless zombies bent on killing anyone in their path. Allustan through his research has pinned a temple below Dourstone Mine as the source of its evil. The Ratcatchers manage to get past the security of Dourstone Mine, where they find a temple dedicated to three different gods. Baphmet, Vecna, and Lolth. The Ratcatchers end up fighting foes from each temple that call themselves the Ebon Triad. The Ratcatchers learn that the Cult of the Ebon Triad wishes to resurrect an Overgod, a combination of the three gods Baphmet, Vecna, and Lolth. The Faceless One believes that Kyuss rose above the petty warlords and is the herald of their overgod. The Ratcatchers also find information that the Mistmarsh Lizardfolk may be involved in some way. They also find information that Kyuss returning the Age of Worms is at hand last. As they leave the three temples the Ratcatchers are attacked by an Aspect of the Overgod, who proves to be the most dangerous foe the Ratcatchers had faced so far.
Returning with this information to Allustan Neff, Allustan decides the best course of action would be to travel to Blackwall Keep. Here he has a friend and acquaintance who would have better information on the Lizardfolk, Allustan decides to travel with the Ratcatchers as he would like to discuss with his acquaintance Marzena about the green worm. The trek takes about a day and a half and the Ratcatcher’s discover Blackwall Keep is currently being besieged by Lizardfolk. Allustan declares that he will return to Cragmire with a teleport scroll to gather reinforcements but our Ratcatchers decide to try and break the siege themselves. The Ratcatchers manage to jump a group of lizardfolk and then thin out the hoard as they push their way to the keep. After defeating the Lizardfolk our Ratcatchers learn that Marzena the keep’s battlemage and two guards were ambushed and captured. Our Ratcatchers lead a rescue attempt. Exploring the Mistmarsh they are able to find the lizardfolk’s lair and within Marzena. They also learn that the current leader of the Mistmarsh has the backing of a Black Dragon known as Illthane. The King used to be a slave in Cloudbreach forced to fight in gladiator battles before he escaped. The Ratcatchers with this information confront the King and slay him. With that the lizardfolk wish to make peace with Cloudbreach. The Shamen who had explained this took the Ratcatchers to the hatchery where a Dragon egg was being kept. However when it cracked open hundreds of green worms spilled out. After the panic and killing of these green worms, the Ratcatchers, Marzena, and the two guards return to Blackwall Keep. When they return they learn that a couple of deadly undead have been let loose in the basement of Blackwall Keep, the Ratcatchers go to defeat these undead that have green worms spilling from their eyes. The Ratcatchers then escort Allustan (who had just arrived with more guards), and Marzena to Cragmire. Here Allustan writes a letter of introduction for the Ratcatchers to meet a wizard and scholar named Eligos Titius, who might be able to help our Ratcatchers further on their green worm problem.
