Serpent's Teeth
The Serpent's teeth are a chain of four islands that form to what look like serpent's teeth. The largest of these islands is called Aval. The city of Freeport sits on a natural harbor located on the southern tip of the island. The island directly to the west is known as Windward Isle, while the one to the east is Leeward. These are both so named due to their location relative to A’Val. The smallest island lies just to the south, just a mile or so out of Freeport’s harbor and within easy view from any high point in the city; it is commonly known as “Lighthouse Island” for the massive under construction lighthouse called the Lighthouse of Drac that dominates its topography from the perspective of Freeport Harbor.
The region of the Serpent’s Teeth is just a little more than five miles square, measured from the westernmost point of Windward to the east side of Leeward and from the northern tip of A’Val to the southernmost bit of Windward (which juts out just a bit lower than the lowest part of T’Wik). The barrier reef stands roughly a mile off the coasts. The reef creates a natural wall around the island chain preventing larger ships from entering except in the southern area where ships can pass through as long as they have the charter maps to navigate the danger. Guides quite often find themselves making coin helping ships that do not possess these maps to make it through the reef.
