Edrun Vale

Edran Vale was the Mayor of Viera, a small settlement on the northwestern border of the Tatharian Empire's Eoperax territories. Edran, a Human, held a reputation for being a pragmatic and ambitious leader who prioritized the safety of his people above all else. Though not particularly devout, Edran understood the political power of aligning himself with the Order of the Golden Blade and often invoked their authority when dealing with matters concerning supernatural threats.

Personal history

The Trial of Allym Moram

Edran Vale was instrumental in the sham trial that condemned Allym Moram to death. He led the charge, citing her marriage to Cusith Moram as undeniable evidence of witchcraft and treachery. During the trial, Edran painted Allym as a willing accomplice to Vampirism, using rhetoric that stoked the fears of the townspeople. He portrayed her as a danger to Viera, her scholarly pursuits cast as dark Magic used to aid her undead husband.   Despite Bruthor Anselm’s efforts to defend Allym and appeal for mercy, Edran’s influence over the fearful villagers prevailed. He framed Anselm's compassion as a dangerous naivety that could bring ruin to Viera. Edran positioned himself as a protector, rallying the townspeople against what he called “the insidious corruption” represented by Allym.

Accomplishments & Achievements

The execution of Allym Moram became a defining moment in Edran's tenure as Mayor. To many of Viera's citizens, he solidified his reputation as a protector against dark forces, a leader willing to make hard choices for the community’s safety. However, his actions also led to unintended consequences. Allym’s death left an indelible scar on her children, Kysan and Classified, setting them on a path marked by vengeance and rebellion against the society that wronged their mother.   For the Light of Mercy, Edran Vale's decision and the events in Viera are a rallying cry—a powerful example of the destructive potential of blind fear and the need for compassion, even in the face of uncertainty. While Edran continues to lead Viera, the legacy of his actions has spread far beyond the settlement, influencing the formation of the Light of Mercy and fueling their belief in redemption over eradication.

Intellectual Characteristics

Edran Vale is a pragmatic man, driven by a sense of duty to his people but also by a deep-seated fear of losing control. His distrust of anything supernatural runs deep, and he firmly believes that extraordinary threats require harsh responses. He often presents himself as stoic and unwavering, wearing his role as Viera's protector like armor. However, beneath his seemingly composed exterior lies a man haunted by the constant fear of vulnerability—an insecurity that drives him to extreme measures.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Born into a struggling farming family, Edran Vale worked his way up through the ranks of local governance, earning a position of authority in Viera. He saw leadership as a duty to protect and prosper his people, but also as an opportunity for personal advancement. His approach was rooted in strict law and order—maintaining a clear separation between Viera's community and the unknown dangers of the surrounding wilderness. Supernatural beings, particularly undead, were a threat he believed must be extinguished without question.   When word reached him of Cusith Moram, the enigmatic lord rumored to be a vampire, Edran acted swiftly. His mistrust of the arcane and supernatural combined with a desire to assert control over Viera made him a fervent proponent of removing any perceived threat. When Allym Moram, Cusith's Tiefling wife, became known to him, he saw an opportunity to act decisively.
