Thousand Spires

The Thousand Spires is the sprawling and nightmarish fortress of Nightmare, the King of the Shadowfell. Located at the heart of the Shadowfell, this imposing castle stretches high into the ever-present gloom, its countless spires jagged and uneven, some twisting impossibly, others crumbling into the void. The fortress appears different to each observer—shifting, reforming, expanding or decaying—a manifestation of the Shadowfell’s ever-changing nature. The architecture of the castle is a bizarre fusion of impossibilities: some towers appear upside-down, others float in the air, connected by bridges that should not hold weight. Doors lead to nowhere, and hallways seem to stretch infinitely, trapping those who wander without purpose. The walls, formed from blackened stone and shadowstuff, seem to pulse with an eerie life, whispering forgotten names and secrets of those who have perished within.   The interior of the Thousand Spires is no less unsettling. Grand halls stretch impossibly long, lined with towering statues of former rulers, twisted by grief or madness. The castle is not empty—it is crawling with creatures of shadow, mindless wraiths, and Nightmare’s personal servants, who are neither living nor dead. The throne room is a vast, hollow chamber where Nightmare resides, his form shifting between a regal presence and an abyssal horror.
The Mirror Hall – A chamber of infinite reflections where Nightmare can observe events across the Shadowfell. The mirrors sometimes capture those who look into them for too long.
The Eternal Spiral – A staircase that seems to go both up and down infinitely, leading only to those who truly know where they wish to go.
The Vault of Silence – A massive iron door, locked with an unbreakable seal. Whatever lies within is something even Nightmare fears
