The Pits

The Pits is a chaotic, lawless settlement within the Shadowfell, a place where monsters, outcasts, and the lost gather. Built into the remains of a collapsed chasm, this twisted town is layered, descending deeper into the darkness, with each level more dangerous than the last. The upper layers serve as a haven for those who wish to avoid the horrors of the Shadowfell, but the deeper one goes, the more the town descends into madness and depravity. The streets of the Pits are lined with crumbling structures, built from whatever materials the inhabitants could scavenge—twisted bones, dark wood, broken stone, and even pieces of old fortresses stolen from across the realm. Dimly lit lanterns flicker with an unnatural purple glow, casting elongated, shifting shadows.
Despite the inherent danger, the Pits is a hub of trade and information. Anything can be bought or sold here: stolen souls, forbidden knowledge, cursed relics, and whispers of things better left unsaid.
The Meat Market – A bizarre bazaar where merchants sell eldritch goods, from bottled screams to weapons forged in nightmare.
The Broken Bell – A decrepit tavern where the drinks have unsettling effects.
The Drowned Shrine – A sunken temple to an unknown god, worshiped only by those who have lost all hope. Those who enter often do not return.
The Arena of Shadows – A gladiatorial pit where creatures fight for entertainment, survival, or forgotten debts. Some say the arena is alive, feeding off the agony of its contestants.
