The Church of Charatos (CARE-ah-tos)
Storms and Settlements
Charatos is worshipped in two major ways, and his church is divided into two branches to reflect that. One branch is comprised of warriors and clerics, known as the champions, and are headed by the Grand Champion of Charatos. They worship Charatos in his capacity of a tempest deity, which often reflects in the spellcasting of his champions. The other branch focuses on Charatos's benevolence, and its clergy usually work to support their community in a variety of ways. It is common for the church to also act as an orphanage, elementary school, and public meeting place for the common people. This branch is led by the High Grandmaster.Mythology
Charatos was born a mortal man during an ancient war of the gods. He grew to be a capable warrior, and during his life had befriended an ancient god of humanism and the common man, whose name has been lost to time. During this war, on the battle of Rysenmount, this deity was struck down by another ancient god, Zelgos, the god of storms. In rage and grief, Charatos struck down Zelgos. Realizing that now two deities needed replacements in their spheres of power, Charatos took on both mantles, ascending to godhood.Structure
The clergy branch is led by the High Grandmaster, who will usually delegate tasks to priests and workers within the church.
The Champions branch is led by the Grand Champion, who leads the champions with a few captains beneath them to delegate.
Those being trained by the church who are too young for either category are called pages.

History
The church of Charatos has stood in Rodwira nearly as long as the city itself has. However, the champions branch was almost nonexistent until 20 years ago when Monique Zelgosta arrived in the city and joined the church.
