Cult of the Trickster
This small cult originated in Olympia, the capital of Athena. It begun when one of the thieves of the local Oblivion thieves' guild stumbled across some archaic literature which was part of the loot recovered from a heist. This ancient literature covered some rituals and prayers to an unknown Power. He studied them and in doing so learnt some simple cantrips and a few more powerful rituals. After many long months of training he became able to summon simple illusions and to heal minor wounds that him and his companions suffered.
He took this information to his Guild Master of the time and his master saw the benefit this would bring to the guild. The thief was ordered to find another suitable thief in the guild and teach him the skills he had learnt. Slowly one thief after another was taught and the benefits to the guild were quickly apparent as the guild sent these Tricksters on raids to aid with distraction with their illusions and other more powerful rituals.
Over time other guilds in the country began to hear about the Tricksters and what they were doing with Oblivion, the capital's guild. They wanted to find out more. The Guild Master of Oblivion decided to allow his men to train others - for a small fee. So the Cult of the Trickster developed and flourished.
The Cult is still in its infancy although it is rapidly growing. The current Guild Master of Oblivion is a cultist himself and is training more cultists and sending them out into the countryside. Some are sent to other guilds and towns to help out. Others simply wander the wilds, spreading chaos and upsetting the status quo.
The cult may have a deeper nefarious purpose, but if so it is fairly well hidden. The new Guild Master of Oblivion, also head of the Cult of the Trickster, is an unknown quantity. His real identity is secret and only a select few know him and his goals. Furthermore the exact Power that the original scriptures are dedicated to remain uncertain. It could be that the entire thieves guild network in Athena is being slowly infiltrated by an evil and insidious cult and no one is aware of it…
