Krab Kids

Written by Michael_Berger

Only two people survive encounters with Irene; children and the disabled. People with missing legs and missing brain cells don't last long in the new world. Some kids have it as bad as the disabled; they're stupid, needy, and don't understand the difference between a gun and a plaything. Other kids know their shit and can be terrifyingly competent small adults. Those kids join this gang.   The Krab Kids are a bunch of Child-Things that have banded together. They're only located in Irene's Decoy, but they have just enough of a presence and leave just enough of a mark to be noticeable. A member can easily be spotted among a group of new world children; stylish clothes, bright colors, and bandanas galore are the signature aesthetic of the Krab Kids. (Of course, that's assuming you don't notice the guns and makeshift weapons they carry.) What makes the Krab Kids so elusive is that they emerge and disappear into various tunnels, many of which are too big for the average adult. Due to their young age, they also can travel into places that Irene would have control over, making them even harder to catch.

Public Agenda

Nobody knows exactly what the Krab Kids want. However, there are two odd fascinations most of them seem to have;
  • Old world toys. Observers say they will scour the wastes of Irene's Decoy for dolls and knickknacks that most everyone else would ignore.
  • C-Breeze. Many Krab Kids are seen scouting out the place and staring at the broken attractions.

Assets

  • Underground tunnels that stretch throughout Irene's Decoy. If the coalition of Child-Things could be removed, the tunnels would offer a great basis for a transportation network that could bypass Irene's possessed souls. Some digging would be necessary to make the dozens of offshoots big enough for an adult to walk through them.
  • Several hundred old world toys, many of which include small springs, screws, and electronics. Some Child-Things would undoubtedly have their hearts broken if these got disassembled, but the things aren't gonna get done if adults don't make new stuff from the old world.

Demography and Population

The Krab Kids are entirely made up of Child-Things. It makes sense, given that they're one of the few that escape Irene's wrath. Their makeup is unnaturally even; American, Latin American, and African-American kids crawl out from the tunnels in equal numbers. The same goes for their sex. Their specific numbers are hard to grasp, but it can't be more than six dozen.
